This gives an impression all software engineers have some model in their head of complex ever changing systems they work on, that actually fits in that head and stays up to date at the rate at which the software system changes.

The larger and more complex a project gets cognitive limits get hit whether you use AI or not. Do people then just do what someone else more experienced tells them to do? Yes. Cause who likes to be held responsible for anything unpredictable happening in the universe that trips up your changes?

Theory of Bounded Rationality and its recommendations apply everytime any kind of limit is hit.

They wont dominate anything. They already are feeling pressure none of them are trained to handle.

The UN/UNESCO/Pope etc have all been talking about it for a year or two now. We are slowly going to see the appearance of something called a Digital Public Good.

Its like a road/railroad/transmisson line builder trying to decide who, where and when people will use those object. Guess what? Through out history that delusion gets shat on.

Its not a static system. Things will swing back and forth like a pendulum. And through those oscillation we move forward. Diff today is everyone is getting their heads filled 24x7 with a whole lot of info their grandparents never had to digest about how the system moves.

Not a new problem. If you look at Power sector history world wide if they waited for investors to show up 3/4th of the world wouldnt be electrified. Once something is considered strategic and required even 30 or 50 years from now there are lot of existing ways to amortize costs and get things rolling. Things will move in the backgtound whatever the vote count is saying.

Well China cant seem to make a single friend beyond North Korea and Russia. Everyone is a bit wary of them.

I mean when the US replaced the Brits as Hegemon a large part of the world wasnt nervous about it.

Or a utility :)

Look at how a utlity works, in setting price specifically, for things that are considered a public good. The story is not about how much profit or revenue they make. Its about how do you keep it afloat and expanding in the coming year. Thats it.

Drivel. Of the worst kind because there is no solution being proposed to what parents and teachers have to deal with daily. Just rubbish about oh no we are aligned with Darth Vader in taking on a mindless Empire.

Social Media is built on very weak info theoretical foundations. It will run into self created quagmires because of that lack of solid foundation in info/comms theory.

Saying the platforms can fix it is totally disconnected from what Information Theory has taught communication engineers for 100 years now.

Please remember one thing if nothing else - Social Media gave everyone Broadcast capability (1 to all messaging). In the past if you wanted to Broadcast every great thought that comes out of a 3 inch chimp brain to the entire planet, you had to stick a giant anatenna on your roof. Claude Shannon proved to us if everyone does that we get interference and noise. People who dont know any theory will then spend 24x7 reapeating their messages or broadcasting at higher and higher power to be heard. What happens? It all just increases noise.

This is exactly what social media produces. Huge noise and constantly shifting focus just to give everyone a feeling that the system is doing something useful when we all cant remember what even got attention yday.

It is a system that theory says cannot work unless there is a coordinating mechanism about who gets to broadcast. This is why we have licensed radio spectrum. No one complains about that because that is the coordinating mechanism. If there is none and illusion of broadcast is given to everyone noise, confusion, constantly shifting attention is the result.

As the buddhists have pointed out for thousands of years nothing is permanent. Attachment to things that are ever changing is the path to suffering.

People are allowed to express themselves you know? And do so without a point too. And good old Philosophers like Hegel say Consiousness(of self) requires dialogue between two beings. Not just one. And quite frequently that dialogue starts with contact between the two that goes - what the fuck are you anyway I thought I was at the center of the universe(especially in western thought) - which usually leads to who am I then?

Just because AI can give you a recipe for an sandwich doesnt mean everyone who sells or buys or experiments making sandwiches are going to stop.

'Humans have Limited capacity to pay Attention to anything but Unlimited capacity to receive Attention'. Nerds included.

Attention Economy/Social Media platforms exploited that piece of human nature. Its not just nerds trying to capture Attention but everyone. I have a cop buddy complaining about how top people in the police dept are competiting with each other for likes and views. Everyone gets trapped cuz pool of Attention to fish in is finite.

How do we get out of this situation? Platforms including HN have to be forced to show people that 1 View they get is actually a fraction because that viewer is going and reading 20 other things. By not showing it reality warps.

There are other options like if a cow in the village takes 1 year to produce a calf and the village puts pressure on the farmer to increase calf production rate, farmer dutifully steals calfs or cows from all the neighboring villages. So some one has to tell him to chill cause the plan has changed no other villages left etc.

Efficiency is not magic. Its bounded. Above and below limits the environment can sustain it, systems will destabalize. If All the Great White Sharks magically get more efficient at hunting over night ecosystem will collapse. Individuals and teams have never scaled at this speed to the levels they have. And there is no signal at system wide level that a sustainable limit has been crossed. So People will happily believe things are getting more efficient at individual/team scale while at system scale things get more fragile. This is why we ended up with central banks deciding interest rates and controlling money supply. Before that any one could print cash. They all thought they were great efficient geniuses. The chimp troupe us not prepared for stuff that effects the entire system.

Its how the chimp brain works. Its not a single system but multiple systems making predictions for different time horizons. when output doesnt align we get stories to manufacture coherence.

Plato gave us his Chariot analogy with 2 horse pulling in diff directions 3000 years ago. Today we got System 1/System 2, Elephant Rider model etc.

The human mind thanks to how its own architecture handles unpredictability in the universe will generate contadictions.
