It looks really cool, but (IMO) you need to work on selling the game better with the written word. I have no idea what this is except a card game with western and Lovecraftian imagery; how's it different from any other card game app?

I'd rather not go into personal detail but I share a similar experience. The thing that really drove it home for me was when I got back home and was telling my own doctor about my experience dealing with family in the medical system and she said I was mistaken or there was a misunderstanding because that kind of thing doesn't happen. I asked why she was siding with a doctor she'd never met before instead of listening to her patient, which got her pretty flustered. I don't see her anymore.

The big showstopper is what to do with the hypersalinated byproduct. You'd kill anything that was near where it's let out. It's also very corrosive and I imagine the would be a problem moving it far from the plant.

The lines and paved road got put in during the old days of logging, I'd assume it was considered financially impractical for a number of reasons, likely from a legal perspective, due to many private property owners, along with a mixed bag of county, state and federally-owned land sprinkled in there, for a town of around 100 people or so. Things just kind of went along from there.

Well the tree was there a few centuries before the line was. And like I said, it's impractical to fall them.

Maine's trees are tiny compared to the PNW. Most of them would hardly graze the line if they fell over.

It's really difficult to prune, say, 50 miles of Douglas-fir that stands easily over 150-200ft and grows right next to the lines -- many of their limbs are fatter than any tree I saw in the northeast. You'd have to get a crane and block the road off, and one tree could take a good part of a day. Can't fell them either, generally speaking, as you get into all sorts of disputes and the environmentalists will send you to hell 50 different ways with lawsuits.

We could look at it as a problem, but if we keep idiots safe from this bullshit, they'll just go do something equally as stupid. If we get rid of this it'll be one less thing we have to thin out the herd.

A little tangential, but carriers and hackers can execute arbitrary code on your device through OTA updates with the baseband modem. It's even been done on 5G.

Which also reminds me how the NSA has intentionally crippled standards in the past so they could eavesdrop or inject code without having to go through the carrier. This means Johnny Scriptsalot can do it too.

I don't disagree that it's exploitation, but I think you obscure a very complex problem with "nobody should be in such a weak position".

I'm not sure any economic or legal arrangement could do away with weak positions like that entirely.

It seems to be the thing nowadays to be preoccupied with the notion of your own identity, and I can't help but feel like it's just navel gazing. Maybe it's social media and the culture of self promotion, but I find it pretty hollow and uninteresting.

I have a young kid in my family that's fixated with gender and sexuality and they said one day "I just want to get diagnosed so I know what I am," to which I said "It's not what you are that's important, it's what you want to do." That seemed to be an epiphany for them.

IIRC GUI support was taken out because one of their long term goals was (is?) to reduce the codebase and to make neovim something you can plug into any text input field. You could use it as a backend for a standalone GUI app, or in Firefox for leaving HN comments. I seem to recall they had plans for an official GUI after they got to a certain point. Not sure if they still do.

I get a chuckle out of people looking for an outlet for their device while I'm carefree with my Port-a-Punch.

I really wish we could buy a new car these days without some insane infotainment system. I don't even want a screen or backup cam. I know DOT requires a backup cam, but they cause more trouble than they're worth and are there largely to compensate for the beefier pylons they also require now (less likely to get crushed if you roll, but more likely to get in an accident from reduced visibility).

I've owned or rented about four cars of different make and different software bases that would occasionally freeze up when you switch out of reverse into forward, but the cam would still be up, preventing you from accessing important car functions (and distracting the driver).

I've had to look up how to reset infotainment systems on youtube because it just wouldn't turn on at all.

There was also a report of an infotainment system which would glitch out if a radio broadcasted certain characters in their station or track info, causing it to stay stuck on that radio station, even across reboots (IIRC this was traced to an ancient js lib, I may be wrong though). How much help do you think the car manufacturer offered? It was likely asymptotic with 0.

But even if infotainment systems didn't suck for all these reasons, I still wouldn't want one. They seriously just suck ass by their very nature. Just give me a vehicle.

If terrorists farmed out work to meth heads I'm sure we'd see some creative solutions for spreading mayhem. A lot of those guys are very familiar with critical infrastructure.

Don't underestimate meth heads looking for copper. I knew a power company employee that told me there were more than a couple of incidents of a tweeker getting fried at the local sub station after they scaled a 9-foot wall covered with warning signs, topped with razor wire, and monitored by a few security cameras...presumably with the notion they'd get a whole lot of copper out of there while everything was energized.

Just an aside, a D9 is a real hellbeast. I got to drive one on some forestry work and there's not much out there that makes it stop moving. Gives me a stiff willy just thinking about it.
