Actually, that's surprisingly little roads in the US. The population is significantly larger (more than 3x), so on a per person basis roads in Germany see much more use than in the US. And roads there are in a much better state than in the use despite the higher usage rate.

So also as a consequence of this: If the US were to use the same per person $ amount to upkeep their roads, US roads would have WAY more money to be maintained. Yet, the outcome is obviously worse.

Same in Germany. Times are usually assumed to be ct (cum tempore) and start XY:15. When something starts sharp, it's specified as st (sine tempore).

Uber outsourced they capital intensive fleet of cars to the drivers. Waymo has no such luxury.

But the main point is: if there is no need to compete in price, companies won't do it. There is no other company offering driverless rides and even if Google were to have huge margins on every ride, they wouldn't lower prices.

Happens all the time that companies literally just choose to not compete in price because people don't have options or just have accepted a specific price level.

What does size have to do with it? Switzerland also has less GDP, less tax revenue and less people to build things.

You have to assume that the US is sane a maximum of four years in a row and in four years another Trump 2.0 will again be completely ignoring all their agreements.

In my opinion, the US cannot be trusted with any treaties ever again the way they currently are.

I don't think this is NIMBYism. The complaints are kind of reasonable and also, allowing a private company like Amazon do this most certainly is not something for the greater good. It's just good for Amazon.

Living in a North American city with power wires being above ground, I have had so many power outages in the last five year, it was kind of a crazy thing to get used to. My Pi would not deal well with power outages when running through the SD card and so I stopped using it.

One can now order everything over the internet and not even leave the house. SO many errands that cost tons of time involved leaving the house and getting this or that. This is now all reduced to minutes on the phone or computer and the items will magically appear in front of your door.

Same with information search. Having the internet, google maps, etc. has made everything so much easier than it used to be in the 80s or 90s.

Deeper. The only significance of the Planck length is that at that scale quantum effects and gravitational effects matter equally. Essentially that's where our current theories break down.

Beyond that, the Planck length means nothing. It's not the smallest length possible, it's just that we don't know how to describe anything smaller at the moment.

While you are right, I think the better formulation is that the US is just super to the right of the normal political spectrum. In Europe you have a pretty good spread across the whole spectrum across the many countries, but in the US the left really doesn't exist as a party. Even the Democrats would be a conservative party in most other countries.

Like the other commenter hinted on, it depends on the ambient temperature. While for certain temperate ranges (above 0C) heat pumps are in their high efficiency range and depending on local electricity prices might be cheaper, it can change quickly once temepratures go below freezing. So there is a break even point where heating with gas is cheaper below that temperature and above heating with electricity through the heat pump is cheaper. Where that temperature is, depends on gas and electricity prices as well as your heat pump

Just a note, the Planck lenght is not the smallest possible distance. The plank length is where quantum and graviational effects are of the same "size" and as such, both our theory for gravity and our theory for quantum physics are guaranteed to break down.

It has nothing to do with smallest possible length or something like that and it's just a common mistake in non-scientific physics articles that has sadly spread.

There is other live with almost 100% certainty in the universe. The number of galaxies, stars and planets across the whole universe is just too large for this not to be true.

The thought that humans might be the only life in the universe to me seems like the 21st century equivalent of believing earth is the center of the universe.
