That is so spot-on... the only reason people care about forcing diversity in tech is because its now a fashionable industry that gets you respect and makes you money. If coders were not lauded for being super-smart, rich, and working in "fun environments" nobody would care how big of a white sausage fest it'd be.

I moved to Windows the second I saw the Linux Subsys... for 3K i built a sick machine, water cooled, expandable to 128 GB of RAM, can add 2 more GPUs if I want and I rock a dual m.2 for the OS... NOTHING apple makes can touch it... and the Trash Can macPro is... laughable now. I still rock an iPhone and the Itunes music match service tho... but Dropbox replaced icloud drive a long time ago. I still like my macbook but that's just because of battery life nowadays.... and I can push a desktop to AppleTV... but that's not for work lol.

Snapchat makes money on premium accounts which are mostly amateur porn accounts. Idk if that helps or hurts. edited to say: I don't know how much money they make but they seem to have a pretty substantial direct-to-consumer porn platform going on lol.

I unfollowed like 85% of my "friends" on facebook this past year... probably 75% of all the news sources I used to enjoy and left all the groups but the professional ones I still like and because I have FB Messenger... i don't miss any of it and people can message me. I have a youtube sub list and podcasts for "news" and if i wanna see my buddy's feed... i can just go look. It's a void; I'm enjoying meeting people for drinks or meals so much more now. Life is better.

anyone didn't know this is how ALL these sites work... just doesn't care about facts, or the news... or the world even. if you care... you check facts... if you don't... then you don't check.

yeah I disagree. there's NO place on the internet that forces you into another "bubble"... on reddit i can avoid r/all entirely... make a custom homepage... block users.. on twitter if someone bothers me i can block them... if i get tired of festival spunyons telling me how spiritual they are on facebook i can unfollow and remain friends... i can get browser plugins to block entire concepts and names... e.g. SO many people i know installed facebook purity just to block Trump or Clinton on facebook... posts, news, groups all that. I can block game invites (i do)... on top of the user options the algorithms are totally setup to provide me with content I will enjoy based on content I have marked as "affirmative" or "enjoyed".

with that being said... Facebook's feed is too influential but that's not facebook's fault. People want confirmation bias and the internet is prob best at providing it.

there are exceptions, trending topics... big stories always get through... but for example... on facebook I buy things from a lot of small business and now i know how they feel about politics and now one has the real hard choice of... do i unfollow and miss sales or do i tolerate the small annoyance... real soft struggle stuff.

Check out Linux Mint... Cinnamon version... it's a pretty happy middle ground between windows and osx.
