It's true that out of box compatibility is still kind of a mess, and Matter has not dramatically improved that, but if you're willing to run an instance of HomeAssistant or Homebridge you can get practically any home automation device to work with Homekit. I don't imagine that will change with the "new" os.

I had used this app prior to the addition of the Paperless-ngx integration and it worked well, but with that functionality added it's just so easy to scan and be done. I have a Brother scanner as well that I'll still use to import longer documents or anything I want in the best quality, but for 95% of things importing from this app works perfectly.

Not the person you are replying to, but I host my local dev environments, HomeAssistant for various home automation tasks, Unifi controller, Paperless-ngx, Jellyfin media server, NAS and cloud backup of PCs, adguard, and occasionally some game servers for friends. There's a tremendous amount of self hosted software available for about any purpose you can think of though.
