Security-wise, having a Claw doesn’t seem so different from having a traditional (human) assistant or working with a consultant. You wouldn’t give them access to your personal email or bank account. You’d set them up with their own email and a limited credit card.

We have built a full digital bank on AWS serverless here. Lambda, S3, DDB, SNS, … no switch, we built it from scratch. The peace of mind is one of the biggest pros. So we can focus on more payment related problems. The ease to build an event driven system is also a plus.

The only thing I regret is DDB. While the technology is great NoSQL was a poor choice for us. But at the time it was hard to attach anything else to a lambda without a heavy performance drop.

I am currently in the exact same situation, also in France. And it seems to me that the more we see the progress that has been made on gender equality (by simply talking to your parents… or looking at the US) the more we see the long road ahead: - why do I have to leave my wife and baby alone at home for many weeks? - why do every nurse, pediatrician or midwife makes you feel like a outsider (sometimes with this nice condescending remark: « Oh nice, I see that the father has came ») - in many maternity, why do fathers need to fight to stay with the mother and baby (in France, some I know literally hid in the closet so they were not kicked out in the evening!) - why do I need to go to the women restrooms and face judging looks simply to change my baby?

The worst of it is that, in the end, it sometimes feels easier to fit into the mold and be a bystander in your baby first months. But I am fighting hard this tendency.

True, but in France almost all companies will also supplement so you can have a full salary.

I run a small bank in France and we cycle the whole card everytime: numbers (called PAN), expiry date and CVV. The costs with Visa, manufacturing partner and processing partner is negligible (compared to keeping the PAN). Every bank I know in the EU is doing the same.

On Android, this has been a project in Europe for a few years, called SoftPOS, that should be coming live in coming weeks/month (ie. be able to acquire a contactless card payment using only your phone- no other hardware).

We do it a bit differently (French company). Since the only cookie that is endangered is the « third party cookie », it is very much ok to store anonymous session information in a first party cookie for all anonymous visitors. So we store page views and utm there, and capture this data in the datawarehouse when (and only when) there is a conversion. This is also working with returning visitors (who most likely kept the first party cookie).

IMO (I am not part of this project) it is more interesting as it is language agnostic, easy to use for everyone (based on yaml) and more importantly, it is starting to be implemented in the government actual tax computing system.

Living in Paris for a very long time and having started a few businesses (current one: a challenger bank with 20+ employees), I don’t relate to anything you are saying.

Yes there are high taxes, (not half of the salary, for a software engineer it is very often around 30%) but they basically cover a lot of employee services that you would need to pay extra for in the US (health coverage, retirement,...).

Most startup in France don’t have « all employees as associate », that makes no sense to me. I currently have 20+ employees with no problem, and most startup are in the same situation.

On the VC problem, you are partly right. There are plenty of VC thank you! Partech, Kima, Alven, Daphni... Only to cite the French ones, but you have access to VC everywhere in Europe. It it actually fairly simple to get small investments, but to be honest, it is still a bit difficult to get some large ones (you still have to look for it abroad).

I actually don’t see French startups moving there HQ somewhere else, so I wonder where that affirmation came from... maybe you’re just talking about the ones that are expending abroad.

Aren’t you just repeating some stereotypes you heard elsewhere? If France were as hostile as you pictured it, how would it have such a dense startup ecosystem and even (God forbids!) some very successful ones?
