Whoever is running the simulation is getting bored.

Wild fires, what is sure to be a historic hurricane season, floods, war, and a technological leap.

I try not to attack big problems head on. Instead I ask myself, what can I change in my daily habits that will eventually, erode the dragon away? If the dragon is in a cave and I can dump a bucket of water in there every day, eventually the thing will fly away or drown.

I think the mistake is viewing the task as a dragon that must be slayed rather than 10,000 hamsters which need be stomped on in 10,000 days. If we can reframe our large problems into a sequence of small (and potentially even gratifying!) tasks, life becomes easier.

All I could think as I read his statement:

“ Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

The frustrating thing is that if the police even occasionally stung bike thieves, theft would likely decrease disproportionately. Something about not having total impunity…

Just look at Singapore.

Or, closer to home, examine theft rates in cities which recently raised the grand larceny threshold (looking at you Oregon and Washington…) and the explosion of misdemeanor theft. My employer (a fortune 100 retailer) is actively exploring breaking leases as shrink rates have approached 50% in some locations.

It’s doubly strange when you realize there’s basically a single species of banana that we all eat.

Moreover, you are assuming no one else decides to sell based… one could argue publicizing their plans was meant to encourage just that…

Alternatively FTX was confident they could make the purchase given time, but did not have the funds on hand.

I’m not saying whatever that is is a great invention but

As a transplant from the Midwest to the North East, anecdotally, this matches my experience. Even after many years and friends, I still feel an outsider here. My wife and I often lament it. There is no sense of community to speak of, just thousands of ships passing in the dark.
