I started de-googling a few weeks ago. I don't really know what I'm doing but it's kind of enjoyable to learn. Graphene OS with F-Droid and I'm most of the way there.

I still use the play store for some apps unfortunately. Also google maps, gmail, google messages (for rcs) and google fi. I'm not sure if theres anything close to the quality of traffic reporting as google maps, so it's hard to give up. The rest I will eventually move away from... Hopefully.

I have a home server with a reverse wireguard proxy for self hosting photos, calendars, etc.

I also have firefox with noscript blocking everything by default, but that's a big pain for an average person. Also it doesn't seem like firefox does a good job of anti-fingerprinting, but I haven't looked too deeply into that.

I even bought a tv that has adb access, and I removed a bunch of bloat, but it doesn't seem possible to remove the google launcher without causing huge system instability. I might just firewall it off.

There are a ton of open source alternatives to google products now, way more than the last time I tried moving away. It's time to leave.

People can't always pay for insurance. The single mom wasn't driving, by the way. You seem make a lot of assumptions about people you don't know. And do you know what happens to the mom when shes's discharged from the hospital with chronic pain? She can't keep a steady job because her pain and her trauma keep her up at night, and shes's forced to call out too frequently. I think the real moral hazard is not taking care of the people around you, and not realizing that the worst possible thing that can happen to you is happening to someone every day, all the time, and those people sometimes need help. This world is full of fucked up, terrible things, and if you're going to sit there and complain that the homeless guy you know nothing about is trying to get a free sandwich and a warm bed on your dime, and that makes you angry, maybe you should look inward and around you and try to figure out what actually matters in life. I'm sure the people who are actually taking your money love you for blaming the homeless.

Single mom gets hit by a red light runner? Straight to the ER. A guy who works two crappy jobs to keep a roof over his head has a heart attack? Straight to the ER. Fuck this logic of "I'm only paying for people who I think don't deserve it". There's plenty of people who genuinely need the help.

I'm not even remotely knowledgeable about this, but I'd assume saltwater would wreck plumbing. The connection in and out would probably be degraded much quicker. Then the water treatment plants would have to deal with dirty salt water, which is probably more difficult.

On top of that all the brine that people produce in their homes would have to be disposed of, and I'm sure many people would just end up flushing it down the drain. So the water treatment plant would have to deal with highly concentrated, contaminated saltwater.

How hard is it to say "that's not going to work" or "maybe one day" or "that's a good idea". If it's something open and collaborative, maybe someone will see the idea and be willing to implement it. Also, on a separate note, why are you so aggressive and belittling?

Investing dozens of hours into learning something deeply enough to be able to modify it is a bit silly when someone who already knows what they are doing could probably do the same thing in half an hour.

I had a dishwasher at my last place, landlord special and everything. But it was smart, if you did a load of dishes, a little led would turn on saying it's done. The led wouldn't turn back off until the dishwasher was fully closed. So you could open it, be lazy and take a clean fork out, and then close it most of the way, and the clean light would stay on.

It only happened twice, for less than 48 hours

I've really been enjoying Leaf Blower Revolution. it's a very long term game. I've been playing it for maybe 2 or 3 months, checking it every day, and I still have a lot to do. To be fair, it slows down A LOT, but it's still fun.

I have a flat glass electric stovetop, not induction. They seem to be becoming more common from what I've seen.

Oxygen not Included is sorta kinda like this. It's a 2D, from the side colony management game where you have to survive on an asteroid. You have to manage oxygen production, get rid of carbon dioxide and other unbreathable gasses, find water, grow food, keep your base from getting too hot (or too cold) because thermodynamics is a thing in this game.

Mining is just "go mine here" but your colonists can only hold a certain amount of materials so retrieving mined materials can take a while, especially if you're mining far away from your base. Plus you have to worry about the materials being hot, or being affected by germs. You can technically mine out the entire asteroid, but I've never gotten close to that because something always goes wrong and everyone dies. There's only a limited amount of resources after all.

Oh my god, imagine the improvement in traffic for those who do have to leave their house for work.

There's some pretty smart people in the field, don't you think if they are forced to come up with a solution that they will?
