You are absolutely right, there are legitimate viewpoints about whether these lockdowns are worth it or not.

The question is if the people/organizations mentioned in the article just disagree, or if it is disinformation.

I can't exactly say that I trust NSA, and I don't doubt that they have knowledge of vulnerabilities that they aren't releasing.

But I still don't see how that could be a reason to not take this warning seriously.

I think that the cynical view of this would rather be that they consider the potential harm from someone they don't like, making a 1m machines botnet from this, to be greater that the benefit they get from themselves making a 1m machines botnet.

We probably won't ignore that. So, the "signature solution" doesn't solve every problem, but I would still argue that it solves enough problems, that it would be worth spending resources on trying to implement it.

As a random user, this is what I would like:

When I watch a video-clip of, let's say a press-conference, it would be nice to have a way to verify that the video-clip is indeed the one recorded by whatever journalist was at the press-conference.

It's not about camera hardware, it's about making it easy to check if the video someone is presenting to me is what they claim it is.

His job for the UN was to find out if tunisia is violating UN rules.

In other words, he did exactly what they are accusing him of, just that it isn't spying because tunisia have themselves decided to be a part of UN.

Edit: Just to clarify: I think that we need both systematic and personal change. And in a democracy, a good way to make politicians care about a subject, is to make sure that they know that you won't vote for someone who doesn't care.

I would argue that a revolution is statistically something negative, and that if we can avoid it, we should.

But, It is a last resort, if there are no other options left, revolution is the one option that "the elite" cannot remove.

The reason why some people seem to be arguing for a revolution is that they have lost hope in there being other options.

I remember that someone posted about this on reddit, I can't find it right now, but if you look at the redactions, there is a part that is a list of names, the ones that have been convicted are not redacted, but the last one is, and the redaction look like: XXXXXXXXXXXX XX which makes it pretty obvious that the name is donald trump jr =)

isn't the problem here that there is a punishment for not removing copyrighted material. so, anytime some bot says that there is X% chance that this is copyrighted, it's safer to just remove the material.

And these are private companies, not public institutions, they are not letting you upload stuff because of some common good, they do it because it's their business model, why should they let you upload something that has a 0.1% chance of being copyrighted by someone that could then demand money from them.
