At large companies, Project Managers and Product Managers are really good at filling up time and creating tasks. They also create processes that slow things down. So instead of making a UI change that a customer requested in 1 day as you can do at a startup, It takes months to get through the design,approval,testing,deployment schedules,etc...

I ask because I built a SaaS product that helped customers understand their data inside a legacy accounting product. Similarly it looked in the meta data on the back end of that accounting product and built visualizations. The problem we had was that customers didn't know how to or didn't want to fix the problems that our tool found. We had to hire accountants to go into the accounting tool and fix their problems. So it ended up being more of a tool for our accountants and less of a stand alone SaaS tool that customers actually used.

self-driving is more of a language problem than a technology problem. In 2005 grad students had cars driving themselves on a course. Tesla and Waymo both have cars that very drive well on many roads. self-driving is here, now all that is left is for people to argue about what "L5" means as the systems improve. They will improve as there is a clear path to improvement.

I don't expect that we will ever see the day where everyone is OK with self-driving cars on the roads regardless of the safety statistics, because there will always be edge cases of crashes and personal preferences around driving styles.

More likely they want to find a way to circumvent short term rental laws and then charge a premium over Airbnb for short term rental access in locations that Airbnb cannot rent. Now you can debate the meaning of "safe". And you can make decisions based on anecdotes. And you can say it would be nice to have better data. But that is true for most things in life. Most people go to restaurants and drive their cars on roads with reviewing far less evidence that their car and restaurant they are going to are truly safe.

Plenty of people said on day 1 that this was very similar to the 1918 pandemic, which resulted in the "seasonal flu". It wouldn't be crazy for the same thing to happen here.

On average, humans have a need to feel safe and part of a tribe. If you can convince yourself that your tribe is correct and that it is best to eat boiled eggs from the big end first and that the people who eat boiled eggs from the small end first are wrong, you will feel better about your place in the world. If you don't know if the big end or the little end is best you will feel uneasy with the world.

Obviously there are exceptions. Some people can objectively look at the situation and come to the conclusion that there are good reasons to start on both sides, and it really depends on your priorities. But those people are not part of the noise, it is the people who are desperate to feel part of a group who are the loudest.

The reason some creators use OF is because of the convenience. If you make it takes weeks and tons of work to get on the platform, they might as well start their own site.

I'm assuming your Twitter feed has become full of information supporting the idea the Elon is a fraud. You are falling into the same feedback loop that people who think Trump really won and the people who think that White people should apologize for existing.

You need to create new social media accounts and try to look for information supporting the opposite idea. I'm not suggesting that Elon is totally honest about everything he says, but there is more to him than what you seem to have heard.

I'm saying this to help you, because, you have been misinformed by these feedback loop algorithms. If you keep your identity tied to this idea that Elon is a total fraud you are going to become more and more upset overtime as the evidence to the contrary accumulates.

I would also recommend interviewing. I've interviewed at most of the big ones. It has been an interesting experience, even though it was never a good fit.

If you should take the extra money depends on your personal situation. Personally, I worked at a company because of the money and work/life balance for 4 years. I somewhat regret it, but if I hadn't have done that it potentially could have cost me millions that I have now, which have put me in a much better place stress wise.

In theory you could wire up an old pentium or 386 and program it to do the same thing some of these chips do but you have the same problem there. No on has a 5M supply of 386s just sitting around in good condition.

Much like elevators, computers are fundamentally better at controlling the system than humans. I assume you ride in computer controlled elevators? Do you understand that they were at one point controlled by humans manually? Did you know that there was a transition period where the computer control elevator was not as safe as it is now? In 50 years the idea of letting a 85 year old or a person walking directly out of a bar control a four thousand pound machine moving at 60 miles an hour will seem insane.
