Pay a visit to any popular vacation holiday in Spain or Portugal and test for yourself who are the loud, abnocious and ugly Europeans. We are doing our best to avoid any concentration of brits, Germans and Dutch on our holidays for the exact reason. We recently bought a house in Spain in a place we made sure was not popular with either, for this particular reason. Will be happy to share with you photos of ugly drunken Germans in mas lpalomas, loud and voulgar brits in Barcelona and Ibiza, a city which is struggling to contain this problem, which is mostly due to British visitors, or all of them in place like el Garf. You might want to discriminate based on money, but like the Russians are teaching us, no amount of money in the world can help hide voulgarity. Drumpf btw is of German extract. I'm sure you'll enjoy your company and will probably deserve it.

Same goes to many parts of the USA. Many of these populations are probably Drumpf voters. Many never had a passport issue and believe the US is the "greatest nation on earth". Many don't speak a second language, not sure exactly where the countries their own country invaded are located, or even which people they've destroyed and exterminated when Europeans first invaded North America.

Drumpf is like AIDS. Like with AIDS, Drumpf's presence in the media will force the public, I hope, to confront racism, in the way AIDS forced everyone to start talking more frankly about sex.

Drumpf's neo-nazi following (and the media didn't really delve into his father's alleged membership in the KKK) will force everyone to acknowledge what are the confederation flag, a celtic cross, or "88" and "14" tattoos.

It's a wake up call, and it's better late than never. I hope that the international community will boycot a Drumpf regime, and the Americans will wake up from this nightmare scenario and revolt their way back to civilization.

I find #PrayForParis particularly cynical because we are in the mess we are because of, mainly, two evangelical christians' little crusade in the middle east, Bush and Blair. Which not only were never put on trial for war crimes committed, were able to get away from any level of accountability. It took so many year for Papi Bush to come out and say his son was an idiot. Imagine how many lives would have been saved if he had the courage to speak up before.

Also, the right has succeeded in sanitizing and de-contextualizing the discussion about terrorism, whereby we don't talk anymore about why the world is where it is today. If we don't accepts the chain of events, but particularly it religious motivation (directly or indirectly), we're not even on a path to identify the problem.

A public/international trial of Bush and Blair should be a priority and probably a first step in reconciliation and accepting the humanity of everybody, not just Christians.

Why would you go this route though? Unless you must do .NET professionally, there's no real reason for devs these days to use anything Windows. It just makes everything much more complicated, and many compromises because of platform readiness of many of the cutting edge projects (everything seems to start today on OSX/Linux).

That's not the point. This is about people switching to Wintel from MacBook (assuming they didn't buy a MacBook pro just to install Windows). Developer that use Mac/OS X use it because it's a UNIX machine, so moving to not POSIX compliant does not make much sense.

Yea, right. Maybe if it had OS X or Linux on it? I'm sure the hardware is ok, but at least developers need a POSIX compliant environment, and Microsoft does not have anything much to offer these days. It's a new world.

I agree. I now have NixOS on an older (2011) MacBook, which seems to work flawlessly. There's an issue with iSight built-in camera, and sound, but I didn't spend time trying to figure it out. Installation was a breeze and everything works out of the box.

I've switched from brew recently.

It (Nix) provides a much more pleasant experience on Linux/NixOS itself.

On OS X, like right now, after switching to El Capitan, you begin to see the disadvantages.

In fact any major change in some packages, require a lot of digging around and most of the time, the solutions are not at all obvious, and mostly undocumented properly.

Also, when you do find a workaround, you will still have to compromise and compile everything from source, waiting for the binary cache (hosted by the project) to catch-up.

The flexibility, and cross-platform nature of Nix, is something that's difficult to resist though (regardless of the philosophy of the project).

There's also a corrupt regime that's more interested in revenue generation (shopping malls and restaurants) more than people management and control. I'd think that for such an important event, there should be no other interests involved. No wander the Saudi say it's God's will while the Iranians insist they should accept responsibility for a change.

For me it has always been vimscript vs (emacs) lisp. I like to be able customize and not be restricted by a somewhat cryptic and inaccessible language. With evil mode you get a perfect compromise (depending on what you use such a text editor for).

I think the greek's demands that Germany will pay back for what they've stolen during WWII (forced to pay the cost of the savage occupation) was important, especially as a reminder now that we see history repeating itself as if nothing was learned. They'll never change and the fact that neonazis are even tolerated there is disgusting.

One way to reform Reddit is to not allow white suprimist terrorist groups, or any other, for this matter to exist there. It has nothing to do with free speech and it seems one sided right, when it applies to Christian's hate towards everybody, yet not tolerated, rightly, when it's "Muslim" extremist.

Not if it runs Windows. That sorts of kills the idea (which companies like canonical and others are already playing with). I think though that Apple had a more practical approach in hand-off, where the system don't converge rather each do what they do best, while making it easier for the user to move between devices. Microsoft user experience sucks as is on either platforms, continuum is not going to improve on that.

I'm actually not surprised. I've always had the impression that Australia is rather conservative and backward looking. Not that their treatment of refugees, or, on the other hand, the pathetic incident like the recent one with Johnny Depp, are the norme these days, but the fact that australia is becoming the favorite destination for right wing Americans disappointed with recent gay marriage ruling,that speaks volumes.

It is really not "the public" at large, at least not in many cases. The police seems to be profiling and directing excessive force towards non-Caucasians, as it was so obvious in the shocking incident in Texas.

This case, which sort of crystallized the problem, all started with a typical overweight Walmart white-trash female attacking a group of noisy (?) children in the pool.

For the outsider, the US looks a very unpleasant place to be if you're not white. Not to mention the huge incarceration rate for minor offenses, and the proportion on non caucasians there.

I used to come to the US at least once a year, staying for up to 2-3 weeks on holiday. I haven't in a long time, and I will probably not anytime soon.

It's increasingly becoming a sad and scary place.

The Israeli education ministry recently launched a new site, in which they've used stock photos of, mostly, Nordic looking children and families.

Israel is a melting pot. Eastern Europeans, North African and near eastern Jews, and recently lots of Russians. None look particularly Nordic or even European (ie Slavic, Eastern European etc.) , unless they're not Jewish to begin with (many Russian immigrants, according to Israeli press, are not Jewish).

You want find many blonde Israelis, except for women who dye their hair (mostly Russians, but not limited).

So looking at an official site which represents a false idea of who we are as people, was disturbing, and in deed, people quickly responded and objected to what was done with tax payers money.

My problem is that using stock images blends and makes real people transparent, not present.

I understand that this is the easiest option, marketing-wise, but it's offensive.

There's a flip side too. People that can't connect to promotional material that misrepresents reality. Weather non-realistic women in fashion media, removal of diversity from promotional material and so on.

It's just wrong.

Taking a risk here generalizing, but I feel that with Asians it might be even worst, because of their perceived obsession with "whiteness". It's just offensive.

Find it shameful that even though it seems most of the developers are clearly non-white (see about-us), they use standard stock images of Caucasians. I would never buy a product promoted this way.

Isn't it safer/preferable to install stuff in $HOME? ie. in $HOME/.npmrc having prefix = /home/[user]/.local then use npm install -g, if must?

That's just being cynical. Israeli national sport is to point out Israeliness/jewishness (two completely different things, IMHO) of anything that smells of success. We love to do this when it's positive, we try to hide it when it's not. Like in this case. My first suspicion was that it was an Israeli, not because I saw the name and suspected. I had no clue. Just a suspicion which was verified. My reasons are probably my own experience in Hi Tech in Israel and the abundance of indian programmers in many of our own local companies.

Must say, as an Israeli myself, I'm embarrassed. I've never heard of the company before but knew they were Israelies when I saw the names involved.

Just goes to show that exploitation, not (jewish) "genius", is behind most of what we mistake for success. So much for the Israeli "startup nation" and its offshoots.
