That's pretty clever, I think this should be implemented natively in browsers. It's nice that it's bound only to the visible part of the page too.

But let's face it, if web devs were conscious about keyboard usability we'd at least see tabindex html property used sometimes, and it's been around for a while.

"Retina" is just as ambiguous as "High". Apple didn't invent anything with "Retina" screens so branding is pretentious, pixel density is just that: a number.

Unfortunately this isn't working for me in latest versions of Chrome or Firefox, looks like an error related to the way socket.io library is delivered.

But I love the idea and you should definitely keep it up. People asking "why?" don't really understand what passion for coding means :-)

Depends on browser and mouse settings (smooth scrolling on/off).

However the animation and rendering is just very slow for me on Chrome + quad, about 5-10 FPS. I won't even try on Android.

This could have been greatly improved by using CSS3 animations, there's even a drop-in jquery library that makes this an easy fix: http://ricostacruz.com/jquery.transit/

With that said, the effect is overused and tacky. Message could have been delivered more quickly and elegantly.

I felt as if visiting that link was just a waste of time, like watching an old movie I've seen and looking for changes in subtitles.
