Guess the iPhone X’s full screen design was a hit - seen quite a few people on the train here with them; I’m quite surprised given the pricing of the iPhone X line, guess there are more more with cash to spare than I thought.

I suppose it’s good from a rehabilitation perspective but it’s kind of weak as a deterrent - where 10 years might be more appropriate.

It works until the gravy train stops then you have a problem.

Democracy has many problems but it’s fairly robust vs discontent. Got a problem? Try to vote out the people you believe caused it. It keeps violent overthrows at bay - most of the time.

For a long time I sort of assumed that the advantages of living in a democracy are sort of self evident (provided you live there), I apparently was wrong.

If you are a cynic, the best part about democracies is there is a much lower chance of violent overthrows - much easier to just wait it out and vote the current leaders out next election; barring an extremely corrupt leader whose existence is irreparably damaging the country - and that’s pretty much one of the few good things about it.

Leaders trade absolute power for not having to watch their backs as closely.

Not sure where you heard that because Intel’s CPUs have different feature sizes among the layers. It’s done to cut cost.

There is a downside to “glued-together” CPUs as Zen has demonstrated - their L3 cache is splitted and connected by a relatively slow connection.

I hope Intel continues to make “non-split” CPUs where all cores have equal access to single huge L3 cache.

As for moving components off die ... IIRC the Pentium Pro has its L2 cache on a different die but in the same package and the Pentium 2 went even further with the L2 cache on a daughterboard. This isn’t new to anyone.

If the expiration is part of the contract, then it's a derivative contract. In this case you have only 2 outcomes: either you get paid 1 basiscoin, or your "bond" expires worthless after 5 years and you get nothing. That's why it's a binary future. Binary futures/options and prediction markets are illegal in US since they resemble gambling.

Sounds like credit default swaps ... you pay a premium until expiration (you get nothing) or some credit event happens (e.g. default; you get a payout). Difference seems to be the conditions for a payout.

The Mongolians did. You just had to be willing to thoroughly finish the job. Fear of guaranteed annihilation kept the rest in check.

That said, Intel’s 14nm is very mature though. The yields are likely very good at this point given how long they have been using it. Knowing it inside out also likely allows them to squeeze a little more performance out of it.

A pity about their 10nm. Won’t be surprised if they have given up on it by now and have shifted all resources to 7nm. Hopefully 7nm comes online before 14nm completely gives out.

Assuming the network has no blind spots people could hide into change their appearance.
