I loved the forums as well, being an invite only music piracy site turned out to be a pretty good foundation for a community. My posts however, were definitely not very high quality.

Wow, I remember beets from about 10 years ago. I never got into meticulously organizing my music, but I'm glad to see it's still around. Also the site loaded absolutely ridiculously fast.

I happen to work with otel a lot so I'll offer a few of my thoughts:

- Consider decoupling your collector from whatever is consuming your traces with something like kafka. Traces can be pretty heavy and it can be tricky to scale collectors. If something goes down, it's probably a good idea to continue writing the traces to queue or topic.

- https://www.otelbin.io is a nice little tool to help with collector configuration

Perhaps they already evaluated their LLM judge model (with another LLM)

Could you speak to how you're interfacing scala with flink? I looked into using scala with flink a while back, and stopped when I found out that the scala API was deprecated.

Contribute to something bigger than yourself and you'll start to forget about the middle class mind prison you feel like you're trapped in. Random example: help to build low cost housing via habitat for humanity. Also accept that a big part of life is simply a shit sandwich, so I recommend finding a way to not be so serious and maybe even find humor in it. Anyways, I'm late to my standup.

I would argue that ffmpeg has the hardest to understand interface in the video editing space (unless you can find a command someone else came up with that does exactly what you want)

For those who aren't aware, the name Jepsen is a play on Carly Rae Jepsen, singer behind "call me maybe". In my opinion a perfect name for a distributed systems research effort.

Like the author states, the "written in Rust" bonus many projects get does not apply to games. Most of the games I consider to be the most fun are built on an absolute rats nest dumpster fire of code (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k238XpMMn38). Sometimes bugs even expand game mechanics and make them more fun and expressive. That being said I'll definitely check out Unrelaxing Quacks, it looks great.

Looking at this code is a nice reminder that I have virtually no real understanding of how computers work, and every part I work with is a nice polished abstraction that hides 99% of the complexity involved in actually creating value with a computer.

For any of the shell history solutions out there (myfly, atuin, fzf) is there a way to filter out commands that failed or had incorrect syntax? In my history there are ... a lot of those. Not that useful to have them hanging around.

I feel like F#'s commercial viability over other more computer sciencey FP languages is actually kind of a downside, from a "vibe" perspective. It seems like CS folks are not generally very interested in moving more towards the software engineering end of the discipline. Which is fair, because they are different things.

It's pretty amazing to find out that you can actually improve your knees (and feet, ankles, hips, shoulders..) so they don't hurt and generally suck, even if you're not 20. +1 for the knees over toes guy programs
