Senior Elixir engineer shipping solo and fast. Built BEAM-concurrency tooling for SOC analysts at a managed detection-and-response shop, and full PETAL-stack apps (Phoenix/LiveView, Figma-to-deploy) as sole developer across several contracts. Currently building production Next.js/TypeScript apps for agency clients.

Independent work: CAKE, an open-source (AGPL-3.0) RAG framework built on Elixir/OTP. CAKE is to RAG frameworks as a game engine is to games; demo'd for a water purification firm with go-ahead from their director of engineering. Also wrote Periscope, an open-source LiveView plugin. Comfortable across the full stack and into DevOps; AWS Cloud Practitioner certified.

Look at the CAKE repo to see how I work: https://github.com/Thoth-Software/cake/

Notice the push gates using Credo, the merge gate with dialyzer, the automatic checks, and how I structured the CLAUDE.md to prevent the agent from generating slop. Disciplined use of agentic coding is a legitimate accelerant.

Also contract work in Clojure and learning Rust. Used Clojure to create a bot for finding translation work for an independent Japanese translator, more than doubling their yearly income.

Looking for backend or full-stack Elixir work with real systems and concurrency problems. I like to use the BEAM for what the BEAM is actually good at, which is massive concurrency. You can use the PETAL stack for much more than just building the next webapp!

Location: Columbus, OH Remote: Yes (preferred)

Willing to relocate: Yes, for the right opportunity

Technologies: Elixir, Phoenix, LiveView, Ecto, PostgreSQL, Clojure, Python, JavaScript/React, Docker, Linux, AWS (Certified Cloud Practitioner), Git, CI/CD. Currently building RAG and LLM tooling.

Backend/distributed systems engineer with 5+ years of production Elixir on the BEAM. Most recently built CAKE, an AI-powered document search and Q&A tool (Phoenix/LiveView, RAG pipeline, vector search) — demoed to a customer who identified it as solving a daily pain point.

Also working with Typescript, React, various CMS such as Sanity, etc.

Prior work includes security operations backends, compensation/time-tracking systems, and full-stack delivery from design mocks to deployment. Also write Clojure (open-source web scraping tooling) and have an AWS Cloud Practitioner cert.

Looking for full-time or contract work, remote or on-site. Especially interested in teams that leverage the BEAM's strengths in concurrency, although I'm okay just using the PETAL stack to build a webapp, too.

I have several years of Elixir experience and maintain an open-source project called Periscope, which is a debugging utility for Phoenix Liveview. You can find it here: https://github.com/caleb-bb/periscope

I am open to full-time, contract, or contract-to-hire. I hold an AWS certification.
