Appreciate the comment, but just genuinely curious. You guys seem to be clamping down on freemium, but not really landing any valuable "hooks" (product-wise). Would something like a better overall project management experience not be more urgent than a command pallete? Not to be nitpicky, but GH now has a scheduler component on top of custom fields - not amazing, but adds a ton of flexibility.

I would love to know how dev resources are being spent there. Feels like every blog article these days is touting some small enhancement as some big feature. Meanwhile GitHub is pushing out actual new features.

FWIW, many years ago I used to have a real problem with bleeding gums whenever I brushed my teeth (mainly around my molars). Flossing daily solved that completely.

I'd be interested to know the age (or any other) demographic of HN'ers commenting on posts like these. Lot of people sounding very personally slighted by companies trying to remain profitable (or just in business).

The lack of objectivity around this is absolutely astonishing from a community such as this.

It exploded with complexity because frontend complexity exploded. Simple. Absolutely no people expected an "API call" from a frontend application 20 years ago, now people expect loading indicators on buttons (that make API calls) after pressing them.

There is nothing stopping anyone from creating a TikTok clone, but there sure as hell are laws stopping anyone from directly ripping the UI (which Pixelfed did in this case).

It's absolutely baffling to me that Germany touts a more secure messenger, but can't get card payments working seamlessly / consistently. To your point, I was visiting there earlier this year & card payments were completely offline for 2 - 3 days.

But sure, roll out a more secure messenger.

I am not a young person anymore & card payments have almost never failed for me (unless it was for a specific/resolvable reason).

A few month ago, card terminals of a widely used type failed hard in Germany, only cash payment was possible.

Your perceptions were off. They have excellent engineering culture, which has bolstered every part of the economy & allowed them to perform poorly almost everywhere else IMO.

I am sceptical that burnout has become very en vogue.

I also think this why immigrants are eating locals' breakfast (so to speak). I do a lot of hiring & (very anecdotally of course) burnout is almost exclusively a topic of developed countries' software engineers. So much so, that I don't like hiring them (DACH region/Austria/Germany lately). And yes; I believe work life balance is important.
