Caps at at 1500 routing :(

Frustratingly I couldn’t find a Mikrotik that would offer me a few SFPs, and a 2.5 or two. I wanted ideally just 3 SFPs - two WAN for LB / Failover and one up to switch. 2.5g WAN would do but would rather SFP for future use.

Presumably the license to surveil the city is extended to flock by the city? Presumably they should be able to compel them to disable them, and provide proof of this (whether they’re trusted or not…)

It’s not that intricate. A very simple docker and alias setup will get you an ephemeral container with your Claude (or whatever) config and the current wd bind mounted in. That’s a pretty good start.

Or, the internal sandboxing.

It’s also just a much greater cost per head of build / management / maintenance/ transacting to hit a much smaller proportion of users. Build an app for iOS, deal with Apple (or Google…), you’re hitting many many nore people for that effort.

The frustrating thing is I bet they’re still tracking and collecting this when you stop paying for the tracking / telematics.

I use CarPlay all the time in my car and love it.

I rent quite a lot of cars. I’d rather CarPlay was taken from my car and left in all the rental cars than the other way around.

The car manufacturers are awful with their interface design, and being able to get into a new car at 9pm in the dark, and have a familiar interface while navigating some unknown city is invaluable. Consistency is safety and comfort in this situation.

My car supports multitouch in factory nav but not CarPlay (24 plate VAG).

Would this not be an issue with any interface if the screen is that small?

Not only does it irritate me not having it in a practical sense, it’s also an arrogance on behalf of the manufacturer. “We can do it better than iOS/Android”, or “We have a better reason to do it”. No, and No.

Same principle here - 2.5GBE dock on the desk, and UniFi WiFi 7 everywhere else. Though switching to the WiFi 7, which hits 1gb+ just about everywhere in the house, I generally feel less inclination to hit the desk

Then dock it - these things have USB4 / TB, may as well get a TS5 and cover all your bases in one wire.

I'm not sure why you want to either really. I can't see many scenarios where the absolute portability of having a 10GBE adapter in the laptop is really necessary. I suspect the general use of these kind of things is for people docked at a desk, at which point its best served by a well cooled dongle or a chunky dock like a TS5

It’s nice that it doesn’t need the WiFi stack or host side configuration though. This would be great for headless machines.

I’m not sure that’s strictly true. I think you’ve got to go a long way up the salary ladder until you’re in a situation where you can command more complicated arrangements (certainly when working for larger companies)

That’s government. They’re notoriously underpaid.

In defence of Apple Maps, I find it a lot better in terms of routing and traffic than Google now (especially in the UK).

Huh? What keyless car doesn’t have this (except Tesla, but they’re an odd one, and I guess not an incumbent manufacturer…)

You can run the controller on your own hardware, without any outside internet access if you so wish. It’s as cloud as you want it. They also support direct remote access.

Yep exactly. This stuff quickly falls into “choose your battles” for me, and I’d rather just offload the issue

I love this technically, but part of the magic was all setting up trestle tables, sitting in someone’s garage / outbuilding, and it all being a bit raw.

That would take nothing to implement. Services like Truecaller already do live caller ID against databases on iOS / Android. All it would take is a sensible register of verified numbers
