I know what a honeypot (fake field that only bots fill out) but what's a timegate trap? Googling didn't bring up anything relevant.

Does it check how long it took the user/bot to fill up the form and dismisses it if it was too fast?

Well, the Wikipedia article's history shows that she edited her own article quite a few times, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I don't see how the error detracted her in any way, and, as I highlighted it, it was a quick 2-minute fix.

I also don't think the Google algorithm is to blame. If her Wikipedia entry had followed the style guidelines ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biogr... ), her birth date would have been parsed correctly.

For the record, I didn't find her post funny or even particularly well-written.

I guess if there's something that can be taken from this article it's "Program or be Programmed". The author didn't understand the inner workings of the Google Factbox data, so she assumed computers control her identity and her online information. However, with a little more computer knowledge, you can figure out how to control this data yourself.

Humans control the computers; it's not the other way around.

What a bad article...

The author talks about something (google indexing) she admits she doesn't understand.

She doesn't understand that by editing her Wikipedia article, the google crawler would update her infobox data pretty quickly.

Her birth data was added to the wikipedia entry today and the google infobox is fixed. It took less than 2 hours. Not something worth whining about.

When I'm stuck on a problem for way too long, I start typing it out in Stack Overflow. Usually by the time I'm done describing it, I've already solved it.

The first technique won't work if the sales are rounded off to the nearest pixel, which is pretty much almost always the case.

The second method won't work if the sales do not follow a Poisson distribution, for instance a product will have better sales at launch and during advertising campaigns. The sales figures don't always float around a constant average.

Also, I hadn't checked the math on the second method but the units don't add up.

On the LHS, you have [sales / pixel]x[pixels] = [sales]

On the RHS, you have ([sales / pixel]x[pixels])² = [sales]²

IIRC, the left hand side should be squared.

The air pressure is proportional to either v or v² depending on the speed and atmosphere.

For a friction force Fr, the terminal velocity is reached when the acceleration becomes null:

mg + Fr = 0

mg - k* Vterm² = 0

k, the friction coefficient depends on different parameters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_equation

So in the end, the terminal velocity will depend on:

- The guy's weight (contrary to a free-fall's acceleration which is independent of mass)

- The "contact surface" between the body and the atmosphere.

- The atmosphere's density (which is lower than on Earth's surface).

The guy aims at reaching Mach 1. Note that due to the lower atmospheric pressure at this altitude, Mach 1 is a bit smaller than it is on the Earth's surface ( 301 m/s at 29 000 meters and -48 degrees C compared to 340 m/s at sea level ).

Finally, the term "free fall" is not appropriate as the definition of a free fall is "any motion of a body where its weight is the only force acting upon it."( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_fall ) This does not take into account the drag which is not negligible here.

Maybe if webplatform.org is mentioned in enough places, webplatform will have a better Google ranking and webplatform might displace w3schools.

The promotion of webplatform would really help webplatform gain popularity. Do not hesitate to send the link to webplatform ( http://www.webplatform.org ) to as many people as possible.
