This is really cool, I wish I could use it on my Windows 11 X1 Carbon which also comes with a NPU.

I was quite disappointed that the dictation tool Lenovo praised on their website for this "CoPilot+ AI PC" turned out to be a shortcut to the Windows 11 transcription tool. My hope was that they were indeed putting the NPU to use for that. Other than that this is a great machine. In any case, Lenovo should fire whoever is responsible for that feature and hire you instead.

It would also be great to see a demo of how this works on your machine. Thank you for sharing it at all, though!

Hey Finn, great project and impressive demo. I had some questions that I was able to answer via the FAQ, except for #3. I'll put the first two here just in case somebody else has the same questions:

1) What about languages other than English? Just English is supported for now.

2) Is this running locally? No.

3) Could you imagine offering a one time payment option? Dragon is currently charging 999 € for their latest version but I really like the fact that I actually own the software after paying once.

In any case, good luck with this!

But VB also didn't host web apps for you including databases, user accounts, email etc. I think self hosting is an option with Anvil by now, in which case you may be able to remove the branding.

I started with Delphi 5 and completely share the sentiment of OP, development experience (mainly when building GUIs) was way better back then. For anyone who feels similarly I can only recommend you to look into Anvil. It is a fantastic tool, under active development and with a helpful and supporting community. It allowed me to build web apps by myself that I previously thought about hiring someone for. Very enjoyable experience and of course the fact that I am building web apps instead of desktop apps is a big plus in many scenarios today.

Great to see you here, Merdedydd! I was thinking about sending this thread to you. I discovered Anvil in a similar thread years ago and am very happy I did.

Apple really doesn't care. A much older example than ChatGPT copycats are apps that blatantly rip off the Spaced Repetition Software Anki.

The official version of Anki for iOS is called AnkiMobile. [1]

But if you search for "Anki" on the App Store you are plastered with Apps called "Anki Pro", "Anki App" etc. It's really quite infuriating, especially for smaller developers who unlike OpenAI don't have the resources to fight against this. [2]

Exercise with light dumbbells as propagated by the famous bodybuilders at the end of the 19th century (people like Prof. Attila, Sandow, Strongfort) could fit the bill. This training approach goes against many accepted truths today but it's what these people swore by.

If this sounds interesting to you at all I highly recommend David Bolton's book "The Lost Secret to a Great Body". It is very well argued. Here's an excerpt that I found intriguing:

**

The first thing you have to realise is that THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH WEIGHT TRAINING. THE WEIGHTS THEMSELVES ARE ONLY INCIDENTAL - IT’S WHAT YOU YOURSELF ARE DOING WITH YOUR MUSCLES THAT IS IMPORTANT.

The second thing you have to realise is that the very word “exercising” - as in the previously mentioned Mr Pope’s chapter on “The art of exercising” - was being used then in a different way to mean something totally different from what we think of as “exercising” today. For a start it was supposed to be a physical “art”.

We tend to think of proper “exercise” as something difficult and physically taxing - the man who’s just come back from a ten mile run, panting and bending over to get his breath back, his legs wobbling underneath him, has just finished his “exercise” - the person lying in a sweaty heap of exhaustion after one and a half hours hard cardio on the machines, static bike and cross trainers has just “exercised” etc... by this definition exercise is taxing on one’s system and needs recovering from.

This is not what was understood by the word exercise at the time the light dumbbell protocol was popular - that would have been “hard training” maybe or “a session of thorough physical work”. Exercise was supposed to be invigorating and enervating - to put something into your system rather than take something out of it, to build up rather than tear down.

Bonus: There is also a chapter how this specific type of training could help in boxing by improving your control over individual muscles and thereby making you less muscle bound.
