I disagree, why can’t land ownership be in sealed documents much like court documents can be sealed? It’s still registered as before but the documents are available to just anyone anytime without reason and they stay out of the clutches of the sleazy data dealers and such that get my address this way and send me junk and harass me in other ways. Obfuscation past this would still be possible as you said but the default should be privacy to the owner.

Fantasyland as the idea of copyright starts to crack. Wait till AI starts inventing things and attempts to patent them.

Crazy thought, why not use something like super cooling or pressure get things aligned and then just prevent them from returning back? In other words prevent it from “de-aligning” or returning to the unaligned state? It seems this would be easier.

It looks like RHEL zealots never die from the other people’s comments. RHEL had plenty of problems just like all the other OSes and distros.

Sadly, the biggest employer motivation is some have very long leases and don’t want to look stupid to the board for having signed up for useless office space with a decade still on their lease. Others are motivated by ego, being able to walk down isles watching their minions tools away. However, never meeting people IRL definitely reduces collaboration and performance on highly iterative and collaborative projects compared to everyone going and meeting IRL. Meeting at least quarterly for 3-4 days can make things work, but time in an office is better. Again, if you work on a team. If you are and IC, quarterly if probably fine or entirely remote might be fine too.

I wish it would be permanent, all of these “marketing” and “advertising” companies just produce things that fill out inboxes with junk.

What is baffling is that there is no option to do this electronically. Although I have modified employment agreements and other things that were sent to me, or emailed my objections.

What if users would prefer their experience to be privacy centric not location centric? Checking location every ~3 minutes is excessive if it was purely for passive innocent purposes.

This is totally doable depending on the NDA, you just can’t say the company or specific identifying things. But you could say that a large wallstreet or oil company has been using raspberry pi’s for trading and calculations with custom code. Etc etc. this dances around the specifics but still could be interesting. (The above is entirely made up).

I see lots of comments about democracy/democracies yet all examples that I read are not the way the original democracy was designed. All of them are republics, which is where the problems begin regardless of the length of time a politician is in place. The world would be a far better place if there were actual democracies in place, however you wouldn’t have mega wealthy people and that simply cannot stand in today world.

The major social media platforms are, in some hard-to-define way, essential to modern life. Call them town squares. Call them infrastructure. They exist in some nether region between public utility and private concern. They are too important to entrust to billionaires and businesses, but that makes them too dangerous to hand over to governments. We have not yet found a satisfying answer to the problem of their ownership and governance.

We had this problem with television and radio. We privatized them in the US and the regulated them with the FCC. Why is this not possible with social media platforms and why wouldn’t it work effectively?

The better analogy if your driver’s license/ID it passport. If you leave these, you likely can’t travel or be admitted into specific establishments, etc.

It’s a good idea, however the list that needs to be created for clarification isn’t remotely as big as the list of things that are just totally broken and desperately need to be fixed.

You definitely took a lot of risks, I’ve interviewed with a few foreign companies and never even considered canceling my lease or quitting my job until I had an offer in hand or was told it was imminent.

If you are moving to another country, often companies will give you flexibility on when you’d start with them based on the fact that you are moving. Some will have you work on site before your move and then let you go back and take care of your move. Others won’t do that but will give you time to adjust everything.

Leases are also flexible depending on what state you live in (if you are in the US), in some cases leaving the state or country the landlord or leasing company may be more flexible (it also depends on how hot the market is for them to lease it when you leave).

Never break your safety net until you have the job would be the best advice summing up the above.
