More than just solving the problem at hand, there can be an aesthetic appeal to some solutions. Similar to the way a writer can appreciate a particularly beautiful phrase, a programmer can enjoy a clever solution to a given problem. I, and many others, enjoy the art of finding these "beautiful" solutions.
