It's not clear to me why you would want your editor to run in as many environments as possible unless you're a system administrator?

All I really was trying to say is that one may find themselves in a more limited environment at some points, I was not so much thinking of remote editing for the reason you mentioned that most developers or even system admins(unless restricted for security reason or some other) can just remote in and most editors these days do this well. but in a situation where one may be installing their system or their graphics acceleration has broken for what ever reason and now one is without their trusty editor so although I hardly every use emacs in a tty or pty it's a fallback in case something goes wrong so I can fix it while still using my editor.

that the editor can open 60,000 line code files instantaneously syntax highlight all of it using trees that are and be butter smooth and responsive the entire time I'm searching through making multi-cursor edits or moving through the file.

this definitely sounds interesting, emacs when dealing with very large log files and such is not always fantastic and some features become painfully slow or completely unusable .

Your other points on the AI features are interesting I have been using Aider and tried aidermacs but ended up going back to a shell buffer with some basic commands to switch back to the buffer and other features to control it, while in one of the code buffers. So will definitely look at some of the AI features when I give it a spin.

My tone probably came off as antagonistic and that was not my intention. I was interested in if anyone was using the high fidelity graphical features for something other then making the environment prettier.

I am always interested in what features new editors and how people use them and such and if I am missing out.

The Zed editor seems kind of silly to me. I would rather my editor works in many possible environments maybe even one that only has a tty interface.

What advantages are people finding with this editor other then high fidelity scrolling.

I feel a lot of confusion at which coding harness is best and what options to use. tbh I have mostly used standard aider and I don't know what the consensus is on this tool.

I feel I want to write my own and that maybe in the future a lot of developers will have custom harnesses and have highly customized versions as each user of these models wants to use these things in a way that's unique to their brain, much like how emacs is so great for the customization but one persons emacs config is often not what another wants or only wants a subset and then write their own features.

As an aside what is the feeling on all the various ai coding tools, does aider suck is that aider-ce/cecli are better or are the bespoke tools for each model like claudeCode and such better.

I don't think the go module system is great but I am not sure if any programming gets it right and all suffer from many issues, but go has the go.mod and it is easy to see what dependencies are being used both direct and indirect and the user can filter and look though these packages and pin them until they have eyeballed updates to the git repo. I don't feel the most comfortable with it but the whole `curl | sh` is so terrible, no signing no, way of knowing about the integrity of the installer.

What's a better alternative ?

I do not think the program really needs and installer but if one must then why not just have it under source control that way you get the benefits of git handling all the download bits and the install script being completely offline and just using cp or install commands.

you could tell the user to do this with a pithy command like `git --depth=1 clone $GITSITE/$REPO && $REPO/installer.sh && rm -R $REPO`

I wrote a fun bit of code to do something like this but for bell sounds in emacs terminal sessions and other things (even using the peasant). but I agree it seems very over engineered. There is a json manifest file to explain which sounds should be used where in this repo, why not just use directories for each alert type, making it easier to modify, it seems completely unnecessary to me. having an install script seems crazy as well. The task is to play the right sound(s) that match the passed argument. the thing I did was like 23 lines and most of that was filtering and looking for ascii bell to play the sound then remove it from the stream and other options.

Not actually addressing the argument at all. If when my model (llm or image diffusion model) was asked for a scene depicting some degrading action it tended to put a black person in that scene would this be acceptable.

But read the prompt and ask yourself what was the intent here. I believe i have discounted all the other arguments.

If it was a an elf, knight or some sort of fantasy warrior sure with a comedic prompt sure, That is not the case. If you translate the prompt as people have here, you can see what was typed in,'Subdued white man' under 'muscular horse'. Who is the mare in the picture or even the gelding. If I was to do the visual gag it would be a knight or a a warrior not a peasant, there a no peasants in lord of the rings and very few medieval fantasy has peasant of any kind.

Amazing how this coordinated attack on internet privacy has been so effective, the amount of people in my country who see this as an attack on "Big Tech" or even "The Tech Bros" is astonishing. I do not even know what one can do about people who are so unaware of what behooves them especially given the recent coverage of Epstein and just how prevalent all sorts of blackmail is and how useful this would be for gather kompromat not just by their government intelligence agencies but also foreign intelligence agencies and even just scammers come blackmailer.

not to mention the recent prevalence of so called sextortion on teenagers.

disturbing stuff, hope the kibosh gets put on all these policies and their is a public push-back, but that is really seeming like a fantasy.

Your posts this thread have been seemingly in bad faith and have taken rather blatant non-sequiturs made. The post by 'goga-piven' said that the pictures where embarrassing not actually one should feel shame and embarrassment. His meaning I believe is that the image is meant to embarrass a people and humiliate them or just portray them contemptibly that is to me clearly his meaning of 'embarrassing image'.

My comment was to try and highlight this is the point of various racist depictions and that if one is powerless then indeed this can become an embarrassing shame. Maybe it's the case that you do not see it that way, but in any kind of bondage that a group of people are subject to, shame, embarrassment will follow along with many other feelings. I was not say a white person should be embarrassed and I don't think 'goga-piven' was. rather they could be manifestations of contempt or other hostile emotions on the authors part.

Why? I don't see that. Are black people embarrassed if a black person commits a crime, yet not embarrassed if a white person commits a crime? That sounds very contrived to me and not at all how things work in reality.

I did not make a point about black people being embarrassed at black people committing a crime, I was more thinking the kind of collective guilt some German people speak of for Nazism, I made not prescriptive claims on the shame or embarrassment only that these are ways that people do behave.

I also don't understand this. Why would every white person feel any sort of embarrassment over images denigrating white people? Feel hate, anger or lots of other emotions, that'd make sense. But I still don't understand why "embarrassment" or shame is even on the table, embarrassment over what exactly? That there are racists?

You have subtly changed your position hear to one where it's not an absurdity to feel an emotional response to an image that denigrates your people.

of-course this was not the most pressing issue, the more important one would be the intent of the image. seemed to ignore that part entirely even though that is the main question. you made claims of missing context in other threads I made some preemptive counter arguments. Do tell me a more plausible context, if the one I provided is incorrect.

Indeed if ones own race is not being denigrated one would not feel embarrassed, although one may be embarrassed that racist material was created by their people. If ones own race is being denigrated then one may indeed feel embarrassment and perhaps also the anger and hopelessness. As for why exactly embarrassment if the purpose is to degrade by pointing some reason why the author holds your people in contempt and you are indeed hopeless as to stop it, shame and embarrassment is often what is felt.

In another post you talked about people getting mad at the image without context What context are we missing exactly. I do not feel ill informed or angry. But I could indeed be missing something, can you explain the context? If you where to say it's because of the LLM adding more context then that could be plausible, but why the medieval and hemp-rope? I know how sensitive the western companies have been on their models getting rid of negative racial stereo-types, going as far as to avoid and modify certain training data, would you accept an LLM producing negative stereotypes or tending to put one particular racial group into a submissive situation then others?

I really do feel like the idea that the LLM would just take the prompt A human male being ridden by a horse to include all those other details and go straight for a darker, somber tone and expression and a dynamic of domination and submission rather then a more humorous description, unlikely.
