At some point, even though all of this is subjective, it’s common sense and we can go back and forth on this endlessly but it’s wholly apparent that false conspiracies that threaten the stability of the best society the world has seen should not be encouraged. So most of us, and the people in power make that decision especially given that the company is private and they can do what they want.

Nonsense. Targeted censorship has the exact effect of taking the steam out of nonsensical conspiracy theories because you stop the spread of incorrect ideas.

I hate this. I feel like segments of the population that dislike porn will use this as a wedge to demonize the entire experience over time. There is nothing wrong with taking down illegal content as it’s reported especially if the parent company is highly receptive to doing so which pornhub almost certainly is.

I feel like a gatekeeper provided experience will have a moderating influence that will bring people back to a shared narrative over time. Possibly a very long time.

I don’t know. I’m feeling the need for large gatekeepers especially in the media space. I have lost faith in the public’s ability to make reasoned decisions for themselves.

Well a big reason I took the CTO promotion at my company was because I wanted to get out of programming and overhaul our stack and overly expensive implementation (which we were hugely successful at, dropping costs by more than 60%). Is a CTO required to code?

I was a CTO for a little more than two years. When I joined we had 3 people as direct reports which grew to around 12 when I left. Besides hiring people, all I felt like I was doing was product manager work with talking to clients about their requirements and putting those into stories, tasks etc. Additionally I would pull together discussions on the evolution of our stack and handle the finances around the cloud implementations of our technology (on Azure). What else does a CTO do? I deeply disliked it because I was working for 14 hours a day most of which was dead time but communication was frequent enough that I couldn’t do anything else.

This isn’t good science fiction. I was at least hoping all of this was based on good, well thought out science fiction. Why even define the ships as being like DC-8s? There was absolutely no need to date something like that.
