Do not take my statements in defense of Trump as support of him. The state of hacker news is such that pro-Hillary sentiment gets away with much greater overstatement and undersourcing, something that I do not like to see go unchecked.

As "coding" becomes increasingly mainstream, tools and automation grow in sophistication, Moore's Law dwindles, and problems become exhausted and are not replaced (e.g., move the entire economy onto the web) - I worry that this profession is overhyped. These kids might be late to the race.
In high school, my friends and I would visit Walmart just to walk around the store and talk. This town did not have much else to do, in the way of social activities.

Engineer as a title is largely meaningless in the software world because anyone can apply it to themselves. Once the self-proclaimed engineer hit critical mass, people who may not have otherwise done so now feel compelled to join the bandwagon lest they get looked down upon or take less pay because the well-financed companies hire engineers, not hackers or programmers.
