I'm in the center of NYC so I'll answer this question. Currently, it's about $2,800 for a studio and $3,500 for a one bedroom. If you're single I'd say you need around 120k to live somewhat okay. That's 6.6k a month after taxes so minus about 3k it's 3.6k a month for bills, food, and however else you want to budget the rest. Depends on your lifestyle of course.

If you want a three bedroom then you'd want to live outside of NYC and commute about an hour by train. It'll be around 3k-4k then.

Laid of from Meta with 10+ years of experience. Very low and slow response rate from big tech, but fintech and startups are replying pretty frequently. Most startups are willing to discuss higher roles. It's still a pay cut, but it's not too bad.

Developers who learn about time/space complexity view code in a different way. They can reason about code in new ways and it also helps discuss code between devs.

When I work with large data sets, It's difficult to explain why something is taking a long time without thinking of it in terms of O complexity.

Would be nice to see screenshots of your app on the site before I download it. Don't just want to download an app in the blind.

My biggest issue is that while I'm taking notes, I just want to write notes down quickly in one place without distracting me from the task, but when I get back to them, I want them neatly organized by date, client, part of project, etc.

I could tell you're a designer because of the tiny text size. It looks good. My feedback is that on smaller screen sizes, you might have trouble keeping those images so I ask that you provide a mobile version of the site.

Currently working as a full stack dev with PHP on the backend. Every language will have its pros and cons. If there was one language to rule them all then everyone would use it. Point is you should instead focus on how the company uses the language. Do they have standards, tests, deployment process, etc..? Every language can have projects that are a nightmare or a pleasure to work with. It really all comes down to the company.

Ask to see a code sample if possible.

When someone figures out how to move around inside VR. Right now you're stuck in a tiny room, but how awesome would it be to play FPS games where you run around and duck behind objects. Most htc vive games i've played have mastered shooting but I'm always stuck on a tiny platform or standing in one place.

It's nice to know that given a large amount of JS, this person won't create a single file and dump everything in there. I want to see code organization and deployment techniques. My concern is how the code will scale.

Most people have tiny code examples. A company looking to hire someone full time will need someone to create entire platforms where things like caching become critical.

You have to prove that you can work well with the existing huge codebase and won't make it horrible for others to read your code.

As a project grows, scaling takes a lot of work. Adding a new feature means making sure that it works with all of the other features that are already there. Having millions of comments means you have to figure out how to implement caching correctly. And so on. It takes a lot of work to manage large codebases.

- Edit your resume for each role that you apply to. You don't know how many resumes I get for XYZ developer that don't have language XYZ in their resume at all.

- The perfect resume shows that you held nice long positions with very small or no gaps.

- Make it sound like you were somebody important in these positions. Make it feel like you made decisions for the company that were important.

- Side projects are always nice. Shows that you have an interest in your field.

- Leading or line height is good for readability.

- If your resume is more than one page then it better be very impressive and really need to be that long.

- Design is always a plus in everything you do, but can hurt you if done incorrectly.

- Have a few people review your resume for typos.

Even a contract doesn't really guarantee anything because it will probably never be worth it to get a lawyer and deal with suing them.

Just make sure they pay you regularly and if they want to pay when everything is finished then get a down payment. Don't let it get to the point where they owe you a lot of money because you never know if they'll pay. Try to not create a situation where if they don't pay the amount they owe you then it will really hurt you.
