Axiom is a small and dynamic (~20 person) technology and informatics firm with a mission to build a better understanding of society and the environment by increasing the accessibility, reuse, and impact of scientific data. To that end, we provide cyberinfrastructure support, data management systems, and scalable solutions for organizing and analyzing large amounts of diverse datasets to organizations across the globe. We’ve assembled an outstanding team of software developers, data analysts, and data coordinators to tackle difficult problems and provide excellent support to our partners at businesses, non-profits, federal and state agencies, and universities.

The Axiom team works to enhance and sustain scientific data by upscaling metadata, semantically linking datasets, developing specialized services, creating powerful visualizations, and applying advanced analysis techniques. As a full-stack software engineer you have opportunities to touch everything from front-end code to our high performance computing infrastructure. You will develop new features and applications as well as support existing applications written by the team. This will include front-end development of web applications, user interfaces, data visualizations, and documented web APIs as well as back-end development of web services, software tools, analysis pipelines/applications, and efficient data storage/access techniques.

We have offices in Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; North Kingstown, RI; Washington, DC; Homer, AK; and Fairbanks, AK. We are remote-first and currently fully remote due to COVID, but preference will be given to applicants near an office location.

Tech stack is constantly evolving and currently includes:

* Frontend: React, D3, Backbone, GraphQL

* Backend: Python, Node, Java

* Storage: PostgreSQL, GlusterFS, Redis, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, TimescaleDB

* Streaming: Kafka, Apache Flink, Faust

With the Axiom team, you will work to enhance and sustain scientific data by enhancing metadata, semantically linking datasets, developing specialized services, creating powerful visualizations, and applying advanced analysis techniques. As a full-stack software and data engineer you will touch everything from front-end code to our high performance computing infrastructure. We code primarily in scientific Python, Java, and Javascript, and compose our stack using best of breed components.

We are currently hiring two developer positions, one for any of the above offices and another specifically for Anchorage, AK.

Ideal candidates with have:

* BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

* Strong experience in full-stack web application development, including database design, architecture, services, and APIs

* Experience with modern front-end development and web frameworks

* Experience with the data science / scientific Python stack

* Experience working as a member of a software engineering team

* Experience working with data from the physical or biological sciences

* Self-motivation, independence, flexibility, and a problem-solving attitude

Axiom Data Science | Portland, OR | Full-stack Sensor Web Engineer | https://axiomdatascience.com

Axiom Data Science is a technology and informatics firm working towards increasing the accessibility, reuse, and impact of scientific data. We specialize in developing data management systems, intuitive web-based data portals, and scalable solutions for organizing and analyzing large amounts of diverse datasets.

We are a small, 20-person company that values user experience. Our employees are self-driven, resourceful, and instrumental in expanding our vision.

As a full-stack web engineer you will develop brand-new features and extend current capabilities of our web-based scientific data management tools. This will include development of key features in support for our scientific data management platform, the Research Workspace. You will also likely participate in projects related to our integrated data visualization platform. Development work will span the full web stack include user interface development, web service APIs, and data storage. For frontend features, you will be responsible for collaborating with users to create and test your design.

Full-time, ONSITE (some work from home is OK but you must live in the Portland, OR metro area and work primarily in the office)
