I have major problem with current way of handling reputation and value of text. I think karma & points system on HN is sloppy approximation of actual quality of a text. Also it is not absolute.

In real life whenever someone talks we get large number of inputs to process about a person. For example when we speak with someone we don't judge them merely what they are saying but who they are. In pure analytical conversation it is good but where opinions matter it is bad.

If someone on Hacker News says something is bad or you should do it that way, I have no way how it relates to me and what is the credential of that person. I don't want to get advice from bad programmer about some framework. This creates lots of noise in online communication.

I wish there was a better way.

Life is Addiction.

It is because same instinct that keeps us alive works when we get addicted.

Addiction is fun some time but painful at times. Just like life. We are rarely happy still everyone wants to live. Then everyone is in same boat, we all are addicted.

There is discrimination not against women but certain traits that are abundant in females. And some of those traits are not suitable for computing profession. Like majority of guys will not be suitable for nursing. It is not about competition, guys can do better nursing if need be and women can do better programming when they do. It is this simple, if women are REALLY capable and NATURAL candidate for Computing, why do we need to create artificial channels for them? Ohh... I get it. This is like saying I have world class athlete but he needs a separate competition to prove it. But still I think if there is (and there is some) discrimination against women, then generalizing men as selfish and evil, won't do any good.

This is completely wrong for some obvious reasons

1. If ideas meant nothing there would be no patent and trade secrets.

2. Big companies are very good at execution but start-up still can compete against them. Most of the times because big companies don't have or don't value ideas that start-ups adopt.

3. Most people making this argument haven't had any great ideas themselves. "Ad hominem" attack but people need to reflect and make up articles.

4. Author is referring to iterating on initial idea as execution. I think, that is also part of creating idea not exactly execution.

Seed however small holds everything to generate a large tree. What is important? Soil and water or seed...

Facebook was good to keep track of friends but as friends and applications are increasing, I am seeing high noise to signal ratio. I think if Facebook doesn't manage that part it is going to be like Altavista of search. Lots of people used it but they didn't know what they were missing until Google came along. We need something that adds value in peoples lives along with entertainment and socialization. Facebook killer would not be something having more features and something more shiny than facebook but it rethinks how people should socialize. Not just serve as platform for viral marketing and time sinking games.
