AfD is not the same as other parties. It is a far-far worse thing. Other parties are simply incompetent at both execution and selling, so it leads to inordinate delays when we need fast action.
But whatever their themes we probably want those ideas - renewables, environmental concerns, cost-of-living, worker equality etc. - just with an appropriate dose and at appropriate time. My sphere is too limited to know answers to those questions. But I can see that Greens (esp Habeck) wasted a huge amount of hard-won political capital rooting for heat pumps or on sticking caps with bottles, when we were facing catastrophic effects of a European war.
AfD is selling hatred and once that becomes mainstream, it will take decades before it could be rooted out, if at all. Last time it took a world war and still some of it remained, AfD does not have any ideas on fixing any of the problems.
Heck, no political party has even correctly identified the issues, forget fixing them. Their attitude is to displease existing voter base as little as possible, change as little, which from a politicians perspective is understandable. But from a nations perspective we are losing precious time and squandering our resources.
FDP is unreliable. Twice they walked away from governance responsibility. Olaf Schulz Government fell down because of them. Moreover they don’t have any agenda worth voting.
Greens could be a choice because they had an effective leader in Haebeck and good governance story in a state. But they need to get practical and stop opposing nuclear.
Die Linke is coming up with all sorts of right messages for middle-class but they have a past.
Honestly there is no party which has correctly identified nation’s problems and proposed solutions to public. At best all offer a small increment.
AfD on the other hand, while offering nothing good, has a strong emotive appeal that works on older people, who are major voter base and are unhappy that the society around them is filling with unfamiliar faces or that their pension is lower than social benefits received by refugees. For other voters, voting for AfD is as I said earlier, is just a protest signal.
The problem is economic pie is shrinking because of incompetent leadership in all spheres. The decline is structural and no one has any decent ideas on how to fix it, forget selling the fix to public. The country is raising debt at higher interests that is not being deployed into areas that will generate future returns.
It won’t but how else does general public signal that they do not want whatever mainstream parties are offering. Any proposals? Democracy isn’t working as intended. Autocracy is unacceptable. So what now?
Seems you came with a preconceived opinion. Know that working harder does not pay in Europe. So people do not. The incentives are not aligned. Leaders design incentives, not normal people.
You are right. European civil society does not reward initiative and so its political class chooses to mislead than bring clarity. Work is not rewarded.
From recent events, I like giving example of Deutschland Ticket. The German transport minister during 2020/2021 took a huge political risk of challenging existing system, made life much more easier for normal person. What happened to his political career? The guy is nowhere to be seen.
Federalism is a strength not a weakness. This desire for control at highest levels is what made WW2 horrors acceptable.
Our problem is incoherence and slow reaction to reality. We either often not experiment or avoid replicating a success. We lack agility in our rule making.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. - H. L. Mencken
The sad thing about democratic societies it is difficult to form a consensus on anything. So elections are won on either emotions or the minimally contentious manifesto. Each successive win on such a manifesto further lowers what will achieve consensus.
People will mesmerizing oratory skills are extremely rare. That such individuals choose politics as their career and then come up with appealing messaging at the right time is almost like solving 3-body problem.
Europe is not behind because Europeans are working less and taking more vacations. This message that is being loudly broadcasted hides the real problem.
Europe is behind because we do not have good leadership. The decisions taken by leadership, no matter what level you look at - local, company, national, supranational - are rarely in the best interest of Europeans. Our markets - housing, rental, labor, capital, pension - are broken and therefore the population does not find opportunities to express their talent completely and the more motivated migrate. Europeans lack well-paying jobs and pay is low because pay is not transparent.
Issues like raising funds easily or faster bankruptcy processing are not something an ordinary European citizen can solve. These are leadership issues. The proliferation of consultants means that management talent is never developed. Avoiding accountability is rewarded.
Consistently what could become common wealth in form of company is sold to private equity or sold to US. Friction in movement of information is sheer incompetence at leadership level.
For years blue-collar jobs were being moved to China, while white-collar jobs were being moved to US. And now the workers are being blamed for not working hard enough. It is never asked - is there work?
Another thought. Assuming such a dataset (laws+ judgement) could be built, an argument can be made to Parliament to draft new laws that take into account all those judgments and then mark those judgments and old laws in a way that they can no longer be referenced (archived?). This might simplify future cases leading to lower legal costs.
And who knows maybe a way could be found to create smart contracts (smart oracles? smart judges?) and those could lead to instant judgements.
Laws intent are often clarified in courts through judgments. If you can overlay the judgements on top of the corresponding law, at correct points in time, I think that will have value. It might, for example, show which laws were referenced the most and which needed to be clarified the most. It might give insights into what legal language constructs stood the test of time and which had to be repeatedly clarified.
Could you explain what do BRICS do with dollars they borrowed from PRC? Buy oil and so the dollars flow to SA. Then what do BRICS do when the dollars loan to PRC is due?
This is really interesting. Assuming I understood it correctly, I wonder why the protocol does not allow immediate return when it gave an address and payment amount. Subsequent attempts should be blocked until some kind of checksum of amount and wallet address is returned. This checksum should be verified by a third-party. This would save each server from implementing the verification logic.
Two missing pieces that would really help build a proper digital economy are:
1. If the content could be consumed by only the requesting party, and not copied and stored for future,
2. if there is some kind of rating on the content, ideally issued by a human.
Maybe some kind of DRM or Homomorphic Encryption could solve the first problem and the second could be solved by human raters forming DAO based rating agencies for different domains. Their expertise could be gauged by blockchain-based evidences and they will have to stake some kind of expensive cryptocurrency to join such a DAO akin to license. Content and Raters could be discovered via like BitTorrent Indexes, thus eliminating advertisers.
I say these as missing pieces because it will allow humans to remain an important part of digital economy by supplying their expertise, while eliminating the middle man. Humans should not be simply cogs in digital economy whose value are extracted and then discarded but should be the reason for its value.
By solving double-spending problem on content we ensure that humans are paid each time. This will encourage them to keep on building new expertise in offline ways - thus advancing civilization.
For example when we want a good book to read or movie to watch, we look at Amazon ratings or Goodreads review. The people who provide these ratings have little skin in the game. If they have to obtain license and are paid, then when they rate an authorship - just like bonds are rated by Rating agencies - the work can be more valuable. Everyone will have reputation to preserve.
Mindblowing! This is 100x VB6. The generated UIs are beautiful and professional. I am still trying it out and building an app for tracking expenses but it is working very well. The conversational dialogue it has with the developer is just fantastic. I am amazed at how clear the user experience was in Chris' mind. I am not sure what LLM is being used but this is better experience than any LLM. Given this is first version, I look forward to what comes next!
Few issues:
1. The 150 message limit is understable but it suddenly pops up and you lose significant work. I was working on UI mockup and just as I had finished and was ready to go on implementation, this limit appeared and significant part of my work was lost. 2. After the first credit, the credit seems to exhaust pretty fast which makes it expensive, especially when you are trying it out. 3. Also I don't understand when you ask it to prototype different screens, why does it overwrites the same file. 4. It is not able to stop to seek user feedback but keeps trying different approach which kind of exhausts the credit. It would be nice if it describes its approach, so the human developer can provide their feedback. 5. It seems it is using OpenAI because it is often self-congratulatory to the point of being annoying sometimes.
Very impressive! Could you share some books, training, experiences that helped you reach this stage so a hobbyist could catch up? There are so many parts - compiler design, basic electronics, computer architecture etc. Maybe a blog post.
Your website is very informative. Please build something equivalent for Munich.
This was not only a very informative read but felt like an amazing achievement if everything described here was developed by one person (the author - @muggermuch).
The breadth of knowledge demonstrated by author from technology (bringing performance down to 14 minutes) to ML to deep understanding of financial markets is super-impressive.
Granted the author has an educational background in computer science and has been a trader which probably explains many of his abilities but to my small brain it feels next-level achievement.
Maybe I live in average circle of finance but I have never met nor heard of a person who could single-handedly conjuncture and implement such a system. To my knowledge, a typical hedge fund has several highly-paid people in different teams to build and maintain such a system.
I never thought one-person could do it. I genuinely wonder how he managed to wrap his head across this much knowledge. He seem to fall in 10x category. Kudos!
