People argue for a toolchain that takes a static language, compiles it to a dynamic one, then runs it with an interpreter on the server side.

The gen z people I know think webdev is a joke. They’re off playing with unreal engine blueprints and shaders and stuff.

TS on the serverside is an abomination. Just learn a real language like Go or hey Java.

I disagree with Paul when he weakened his argument from perfect to good taste. There are some artists who have more control over details than others. By perfect you would be able to perfectly recreate the reality of the subject/scene.

The scripting languages of the future I see more in things like Unreal Blueprints.

Meanwhile webdevs reinvent things from 40 years ago and struggle to build 2D form apps.

Agree with this. Ppl can make a mess inside their typesystem specs esp. when making their code interface with others on a large project. Adhoc types that are just bloat. Etc.

How so? Coffeescript was mostly absorbed by JS, a true success story. The cutting edge JS ppl are moving away from TS right now, at least some of the ones I follow on twitter seem to be over it. OP might be on to something, not wanting to waste time chasing trend n-1

Does anyone else think it’s weird that trivial syntax/typesystem frameworks get very popular whereas things that actually move tech forward, like new apis/webgpu dont get much hype? Maybe it just seems this way. I mean how many ways can we come up with to watch ppl struggle to build 2D form applications?

The hype is coming from REBCO tape magnets which aren’t in ITER. Many consider ITER to already be obsolete.

This is like how computers used to take up whole rooms in the 50s but later could sit in the corner. Fusion takes up whole buildings (ITER) but the MIT ppl proved a magnet so that it can fit in just a room.

As our magnets get stronger the tokamaks can get smaller. Room sized tokamak is manageable for commercialization. Commonwealth Fusion Systems has a pretty clear path it seems.

No, Fusion can not put the brakes on climate change. It is the best long term option for generating heat, but the problem is not about what we add, but instead about what we remove.

Carbon Capture is what will matter. Carbon taxes are an interesting attempt at political solutions, but this requires coordination between Russia, CCP, and the USA. We need something that can be done despite what other foreign powers can be made to do, lest we want to wage WW3 over this.

Carbon Capture is also proportionately underfunded compared to renewables. Global warming is not something that will stop when we stop being bad; it has momentum. Greenhouse gases are like a blanket we’ve been wrapping around ourselves. We have to unwrap to get back to normal: carbon capture.
