AM radio is a tried and true technology. It's super simple. I think at the very least they should come to a compromise in which certain emergency frequencies are available/accessible in all cars.

My best guess is that Apple won't do it because their plan is to phase out passwords entirely. That's what that whole FIDO Alliance (https://fidoalliance.org) is all about.

I think that ultimately a password tool needs to be available on multiple platforms, like 1Password. Having it just be on Apple stuff just isn't gonna work for the many Windows and Linux machines I begrudgingly have to interact with.

I don't think being able to scan this is completely new. Perhaps this specific technique is, but I've heard of this being done at least once previously in the past decade.

Discovered this book in my elementary school's library when I was a kid in the mid-1990s. It became my favorite book, and it remains so to this day: I absolutely love it!

I use an iPhone and have never experienced any of these issues with blurriness. Do they have specific examples? As others have said, I think I'm good with the way things are right now.

I agree both about the keyboard feature and 3D Touch in general. Just because some people can't figure out how to use right-click or force touch, doesn't mean it shouldn't be there for the people who can figure it out. I feel like it shouldn't have been removed and that the experience of editing text is objectively worse now than it used be. I used that keyboard feature the exact same way all the time.

Fortunately, there's user choice in phones. So get an Android device if you want to run Google's stuff? I mean, security is one angle, but let's talk power and memory usage. You're asking for Apple to allow Chrome's engine (because their app is on the App Store today right now) -- the giant well-known resource hog routinely toasting MacBook Pro users' thighs -- onto their fanless hyper-performant devices. Setting aside privacy and monopolistic concerns, I just don't see how that's a great idea.

I have had the same complaints for a while. I switched to Mac OS X around 2004 because it was just massively better in terms of quality of life for the user. The OS has continued to improve while Windows has been epically stagnant. Even with major pushes to modernize things, it still feels like it's been bolted together with duct tape and bailing wire. It's just horrible.

It seems like virtually any linux distribution you can pick at random with a dart and it would have overall better quality of life on things like a basic terminal app. Microsoft has even tried to improve their terminal a few times and it still totally feels terrible. If I didn't have to use windows for a few work things, I would never go near it again. And in future jobs, me using it at all for work is definitely off the table.

If I had it to do over again, I never would have taken out such big loans; instead I would have opted for the cheapest community college. But I was young and had never managed money before. I had no understanding of what I was signing up for. I actually went to a super overpriced art school ($30k/year) and realized about halfway through that I was never going to be able to pay it back. So I left and started working. That was probably the right decision because paying back $60k plus interest has been insane. I've spent all this time (15 years so far) paying back everything and still have $30k left (all interest!) and I can't imagine if I had to pay back $120k + interest. If I had stayed, by this point, I would have fled to a third-world country and changed my identity to avoid having to pay it back long ago – or killed myself.

It is criminal what they have done to people. Absolutely criminal.

Yeah, honestly, I'll believe it when I see when it comes to faster updates on Windows. Whenever I have to update macOS even on a machine that's way, way behind, it's super simple and straightforward. On Windows, there's always hours of pain and installing endless updates over and over. Windows Update never seems to finish updating. Right after I finish installing everything, boom, it's found more updates. It's just absolutely horrifying and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

I think they are dead on about lack of experience being the cause here. You can't make a AAA game on $72,000 and 6 to 10 people. That's nuts. Just one person's salary is going to be 50-60k if they are paying people reasonably.

I'm hoping that 10.11 will perhaps be the release that refines things quite a bit, concentrating on stability and generally cleaning up messes like this.

Let's remember that they did a fairly major overhaul of everything with Yosemite. This is just how software works sometimes. But you're right, there was a certain amount of UI stability during the Tiger through Snow Leopard era that I wish that Apple would get back to.

Try switching between the tabs in the "About this Mac" dialog. The framerate is truly shameful. Astonishing that it got approved at all. I had to try it on a couple different Macs at the Apple Store to believe that it wasn't some random problem I was seeing.

There's a movement where I'm from that wants the Pacific Northwest states plus British Columbia to split off into a country called Cascadia. Barring some terrible disaster, I highly doubt that's ever going to happen in the near future.

Maybe in some distant future where things are very different, but it's not realistic right now.
