Technologies: The majority of our C++ software is C++17. We also have code in Python, Go, and TypeScript. Developers have a choice of Linux Laptops, or MacBooks and virtual workstations running Linux. We use many open source projects (including Eigen and Boost), and contribute as well.

I don't know how many times I read over the definition of the Legendre transform and never really got it. I'll definitely check out that section. I feel like as an outsider Sussman brings a much needed fresh viewpoint in explaining things in physics. His explanation of the derivatives in the Euler-Lagrange equation was similarly great.

I think you are right lost_marbles. The difference between a PhD with an excellent pedigree and a rubber-stamped PhD should be their publication records. The problem would still exist if these rubber-stamped PhDs weren't there, I think. As a postdoc, you're going to get paid zilch, period.
