Having worked with .Net for many years, I always had a bad feeling expanding my experience with a closed source, Windows-only platform (I liked the C# language and tooling, though). I kept looking for an open source, cross platform language with the same features and characteristics as .Net. .Net Standard and .Net Core being open source (MIT licenced), cross-platform, more performant than .Net Framework and Mono and being supported by free cross-platform tooling really gives me peace of mind in this regard.

"Nordics" covers a pretty diverse area regarding climate and quality of local timber. Most houses in Denmark (southernmost part of "nordics") are built with bricks because wood has a tendency to rot in our climate. Also, we experience almost no earthquakes.
