Been trying to decide whether to do this myself, this really a dark pattern?

We're not asking until until they try to use the feature that requires location, but are using the additional pop-up. Rationale being that they probably want to allow it or they wouldnt be using app, and making it so they dont mistakenly deny and have to mess with setting is really more of a convenience.

But ya it does seem to go against the OS defined behavior.

What in the fuck, at least there's netflix still, for now.

We don't want to see ads, we're willing to pay not to see ads, fuck off with the ads.

(account not currently active so not sure how bad ads really are, but when I get it the non-premium plan is basically no longer an option)

Youtube Red I might pay for, but still mad they won't let me watch vids on Ipad with screen off now so haven't signed up out of spite.

To a new user, heroin is f'in amazing, so I hear. For an addict it just gets them back to normal.

Absolutely there's a reason people get addicted to cigs in the first place. But say, driving down a scenic road on nice day with window down, without even the slighted urge to light up a cig, is not something I would have imagined while still a nicotine addict. I mean I'll think about smoking a blunt sure, but that different.

Also glad I quit before all the e-cig stuff came out. If I was able to smoke AND breath prob woulda never got off.

Solution easy, just get all countries in the world to agree to stop burning fossil fuels now whatever the cost. Then just have to tell all the poor people in [poor country] that they can't live like we do because we got there first and messed it all up.

We're all sure gonna be kicking ourselves after it all goes Mad Max. Completely avoidable, yet all but inevitable with no off-switch in sight in the real world.

Thought about this a lot in high school, I believe this attitude has basically made large portions of American society mentally handicapped. Peer pressure to pretend to not know an answer to dumb as question to not look uncool etc.

Also been wondering how much this has been propping up the stock markets. If everyone is putting some percent of every paycheck into the stock market without even thinking about it, seems like it would have some systemic effect on prices.

Are more people currently contributing to their IRA's than cashing them out? Is there tipping point going by current population dynamics??

Was so excited when they finally added a video call option that wasn't a conceptual travesty so that we could finally have a cross-platform facetime alternative, unfortunately video always cut out and audio was inaudible, and still, despite being phone number based, won't let me call a number if I haven't added them as a contact. Oh well, back to, "let me go grab my iPad so we can facetime."

I tried to like it, I really did.

Been thinking about this a lot lately. The fantasy the modern society had somehow left the jungle has been crumbling for me as it's been becoming more and more clear that the unskilled/disadvantaged are truly fucked and becoming more so.

I don't like it, but it really is a fucking jungle out there. Nature can be cruel and spreading fake news for personal gain is as viable a survival strategy as any other form of parasitism.

Will continue to hold onto naive notions that human existence can have some sort of meaning beyond survival of the best adapted until the sun burns out, however, but it ain't easy. We weren't meant to live like this, dammit!

After using a mac for ~6 months now, I finally understand what happened to gnome3/unity, clearly designed by mac users.

I mean it's perfectly usable once I got the basic gestures down and installed the app that let me independently set the track pad and mouse wheel scroll directions, but will go so far as to say that both xfce and MATE are objectively better at window management.

Partly I think their hands were tied by the too late to change decision for the always there contextual top menu bar. Or this is just 25 years of using win95 clones talking and I'm set in my ways.

basically. guess thats what the whole g+ circles thing was, and im sure fb can do too now, but if i have to spend basically any effort thinking about who's going to see it I'm just not gonna post. (or worry about who won't see it because of the black-box algorithm)

I'm prob not the target market anyway, as im paranoid and social media and human interaction in general is strange and frightening to me, but that's a major part of the reason i never post anything.
