what is the name for this kind of pointless, lazy, selective, quoting that willfully misconstrues what's being quoted? the answer to this question is incredibly clear: for the developer that created this tool. if that makes you unhappy enough to malign them then maybe you should just not use it?

Lol if you say so. I contribute to an OSS project with thousands of industry users and we break downstreams all the time - we literally have no stability guarantee. In the 2 years I've been a contributor I've seen exactly once when someone got upset about a breakage.

Ummm why? Breaking changes aren't the end of the world? Deprecate and communicate clearly and people are usually fine with them (if it's meaningful progress instead of churn).

You are presuming an existing tile IP - if you're already in possession of such an IP then the place and route is already coarse grained. There are lots of papers on this.

What exactly does the GPU do? Yes there are tiles but it's up to you to now tile your workload. You understand this is the exact same problem you're bemoaning re place and route - you need to figure out how to shuffle individual bits efficiently through an existing fabric (roughly it's the same thing as routing 32 wires at a time).

What exactly is this going to do for you if you're placing tiles? Also you can already recover this by exhaustively enumerating all a->b paths (yes people really do this).

This is a very naive take - the very direct translation of what you're saying doesn't happen does in happen in analysis all the time: there are many inequalities which can be "stacked" to prove a bound on something but their factors are too large so you cannot just stack them if you need a fixed bound for your proof to go through. Unsurprisingly this is exactly how actual runtime analysis also works (it's unsurprising because they're both literally math).

No it's not - the compiler for MSL is of course C++ because it's LLVM but the runtime is absolutely written in objc (there weren't even C++ bindings until recently).

You say that like it’s even remotely feasible at the frontier of mathematics and not a monumental group effort to turn even established proofs into such.

people on hn love making these kinds of declarative statements (the one you responded to, not yours itself) - "for X just do Y" as a kind of dunk on the implied author they're responding to (as if anyone asked them to begin with). they absolutely always grossly exaggerate/underestimate/misrepresent the relevance/value/efficacy of Y for X. usually these declarative statements briskly follow some other post on the frontpage. i work on GPU/AI/compilers and the number of times i'm compelled to say to people on here "do you have any idea how painful/pointless/unnecessary it is to use Y for X?" is embarrassing (for hn).

i really don't get even get it - no one can see your number of "likes". twitter i get - fb i get - etc but what are even the incentives for making shit up on here.
