I feel this, and for better or worse, I think its going to wind up resulting in / encouraging "human islands" on the internet, where a valid government ID verification, combined with a video call verification of some kind, will be required to participate in these communities. Anti-clanker communities. Its unfortunate that we may in some ways need to give up our privacy to avoid this stuff.

This is so very true.... Academia has not fully adapted to the reality of the world now with the internet and AI, and the reality of real world use cases, work environments and human nature in relationship to it.

We're still in the early stages of it, but AI is and will continue to force us to re-explore our relationships with work, productivity, authenticity and what really matters to us about the "human element" in anything.

The big problem I have with this, is that: are drug dealers and organized money launderers professional criminals? who are taking advantage of people, and spreading suffering? Yes, they are.

But lots of regular ol' struggling drug addicts use these services, to get generally much safer drugs than on the streets, under much safer circumstances.

Sure, everyone who uses these types of markets and services is (usually) committing a crime, but I think its a bit much to call everyone you'd wind up taking advantage of here a "professional criminal". And that thinking just sorta feeds the stigma and condemnation of drug addicts who are struggling and just want to be safe, and are already taken advantage of by society enough.

I don't think you can say this is 100% morally sound. Unless you're super mindful and careful about it, you'll have collateral damage of people who aren't bad people, even if they are doing illegal things.

I'm not sure if these people are a small step up from the call center scammers because at least they deliver something or a small step down because they're supposedly capable enough to do better.

This is what I don't understand.... They have the skills (supposedly).. I mean sure, if they are foreign developers they wont always be getting the best pay or opportunities in their own country... But I have never seen a startup shy away from hiring foreign development teams in the past, so long as they do good work. I have a hard time believing they are competent enough to do good work, but with a complete lack of valid, legal and morally sound opportunities.

I also have such a hard time believing this type of fraud is actually all that profitable or pans out successfully often enough to make it worth it... Are companies really doing that little due diligence?

On the flip side, I also hate that the interview process for valid candidates is turning into a 3 ring circus of hoop jumping because of scams like this. Companies really need to find the right balance between due diligence and not making interviews absolutely absurd and insulting.

What? Most all FLAC is created (converted) from a WAV source. If your source is MP3, then yes, FLAC is irrelevant... But FLAC is basically a lossless compression format for WAV.

I'm really confused by what you're talking about lol... especially "up"convert...??? WAV is the ultimate lossless audio on PC. It really doesn't get any better than WAV. There is no "up" from WAV. FLAC is a compression format for WAV, that does not lose any data. The output of FLAC will be identical to the WAV file, even though its compressed. MP3 is a compression format for WAV that loses data, and will not be identical to the original WAV file.

You've hit the nail on the head, and I think many people who have struggled with substance abuse disorders would agree: You can't fix whats inside by changing the outside... sure maybe changing external circumstance can help nudge you in the right direction, but it wont fix anything. Recovering drug addicts don't magically become functioning members of society just because they stopped using drugs... They do a lot of internal work, and find happiness within themselves, not within their surroundings or substances (or they go back to abusing drugs and die an addict).

If you are interested in any of this I highly recommend reading about the psychology of drug addiction more, because it is so very relevant to anyone and everyone at the end of the day (and very related to what you're speaking about). Even non-addicts can learn a lot about themselves and how to be happy, by learning how recovering drug addicts do it. If a formerly homeless heroin addict can find his way to happiness and 6 figure income, why wouldn't your average person not want to learn more about that journey for their own benefit? This is why a lot of recovering addicts wind up being more effective at life than the average person IF they managed to overcome addiction and stay sober. Overcoming addiction is like a master class in effectively living life, being happy, and overcoming anything. Its unfortunate that so few make it, but there's a lot be learned from it.

Any company needing to "Test" me, is an instant sign of disrespect. It means you already don't trust me so I don't trust you. Now obviously there needs to be some accountability, and I think a 90 probationary period is a perfect compromise.

When you are hiring senior talent, we aren't desperate or dying for your job. You need to sell it to us. You need to accommodate us. You need to make it easy for us. Assignments are a sure fire way to let me know you have no idea what you are doing, and don't have competent people on your team who would be able to just talk to me and tell i know what i'm doing.

. I assume this is because you never know how clever people can be in cheating remotely, so they can't really trust the applicant did the project.

I mean.. in the tech world tho... Unless you are literally having someone else do the assignment for you entirely, what exactly constitutes 'cheating'? Isn't it common knowledge that most programmers refer to StackOverflow (or the equivalent site for devops) all day?

This is what I find so dumb about assessments and tests in the tech space.... there is no such thing as "cheating". Either you know how to google and figure something out or you don't. Most people can't just pull solutions off the top of their head. Tech is too broad. You have to do research.

And if thats not what you mean by 'cheating', I just don't believe people are applying to jobs out there and having other people literally do entire assignments for them.... If you can't do the work yourself, you would be fired in no time... so whats the point? Or if you can have someone else always do the work for you, why not still hire that person if the works getting done either way?

There is no "You might not always have a calculator in your pocket, so we need to test that you know this stuff off the top of your head" in tech. I will always have a calculator, robust IDE, and google. Tests and assignments for hiring in tech are completely bogus, at all levels.

So lets say that none of these web3 coins are scams. They still aren't actually solving anything that hasn't already been solved with web2. So at best they are unnecessary. And while the examples you have listed may not be scams, unfortunately the general web3 landscape is rife with them.

Its a cool project but nothing about how it works requires web3 technologies or blockchain technologies. Web3 still isn't "solving" any problem in that system.

I don't respect any HR Team/Company that demands tests, assessments or homework as part of the interview/onboarding process. If you don't have a competent enough team, that can identify I know what you need me to know just by talking to me, I don't respect your company philosophy, I will assume your team is incompetent or not fully formed, and I will choose not to work for you. Its a cheap cop-out for HR to not have to do their job and not have to involve working members of the team in the hiring process. If you need to "Test" me to hire me, I find it disrespectful. It means you already don't trust me, so I will never trust you.

Also there's lots of incredible talent out there, who are horrible test takers or do poorly under the context of the stress of performing for an interview... these people actually tend to be more talented than the people that are good test takers and good under that kind of pressure. You're shooting yourself in the foot by not considering them.

Hiring "the best candidate for the job" is a nebulous term that HR has misinterpreted to mean "most technically skilled during an unrealistic interview test". The best candidate is really the person who interfaces with a team the best on an interpersonal level, and they will grow in to their position over time, and fill in any gaps in technical experience they don't have if they are truly passionate about their field. Either a lead person has leadership traits or they don't. Some technical homework assignment and presentation will prove nothing.

Money. These people are fixing to lose to much, they'll pay their way out any way they can while they still can.

How dependent is it on them as a service? If their website/service disappeared off the face of the earth tomorrow, would I still have access to my passwords locally?

I'm still hesitant to use any form of password management that relies on cloud services. I still like Keepass (with auto-updates disabled for security because their updater uses HTTP, of course), for my purposes. I can Sync my keepass file any number of secure ways that don't rely on a single provider.

Even with Autopilot, everyone I know who owns one: Its their little baby... they don't even dare risk it, at all. These people doing stuff like this are either really stupid, or really rich... or both. Because I have never seen anyone I know dare drive recklessly with autopilot.

And that is the stigma and misinformation surrounding addiction at work. Many, if not most, addicts are not only "functional" but sometimes super-humanly so. Especially when it comes to wealthy circles.

Drugs, even the hardest ones, aren't inherently bad, and can often have MANY benefits, many that are performance enhancing effects. Yes, even Heroin. Infact, particularly heroin. It can boost creativity immensely, boost your dedication and ability to work long hours, among many other benefits that people always like to brush aside "for the greater good/" and "the ends justifying the means" of misinformation or lack of information.

An example of more misconception: A seasoned heroin addict will actually durrive energy, motivation and insomnia out of heroin use. Its not always the sedating, "noding out", sleepy kind of drug most people picture it as. Sure all of that is still a thing, but not always, depending on the addict's tolerance, responsibility of use, and general experience.

Unfortunately, a lot of the "problems" hard drugs like heroin create are due to the fact that they are illegal. Yes there are health problems involved that are inherent regardless of legality, but when you can use a pure product, the correct way, even most of those issues go away, or aren't anywhere close to as bad as people think they are.

Heroin addicts who steal, lie, cheat, etc, only do so because of poverty, the cost of the drug, and the inability to source a consistent and unadulterated product. Wealthy people are immune to the issues revolving around poverty/price, which only leaves the health issues, and impurities... which again: Are largely due to the black market and inconsistency of the product. Without the war on drugs, it is entirely possible for most of heroin's "downsides" to be mitigated.

People don't want or like to believe this but: Its virtually impossible for an experienced heroin addict to overdose (unless they are explicitly trying to), on a product that is pure and consistent. Its not as easy as people think. But all it takes is that one time with a product that isn't what you thought it was. Or one night of irresponsibly mixing drugs (usually alcohol) that shouldn't be mixed

I'm not trying to advocate heroin use, but just pointing out that it isn't at all what most people think it is. Even very progressive and open minded people often still have a warped and misinformed perception of hard drugs. And the cold hard truth is: Responsible use of pure heroin is VERY safe. I would say as safe as alcohol (so not entirely safe, but far safer than the boogeyman drug it is purported to be)... its a fact that you never hear anyone say, but in my opinion and experience its entirely true.

I don't think you would be hard pressed to find professionals with experience in addiction and pharmacologist who would agree with me.

As the son of a Vietnam Veteran (drafted) and Purple Heart recipient (shot in the stomach with an AK-47 by the enemy) and severe motorcycle accident survivor (Semi-truck didn't see him and merged into him on the freeway at high speed. He was told he would never walk again after this one, however he managed to learn how to use his leg like it was prosthetic, having very little actual control over it despite it still being there)... This is unfortunate and makes way too much sense to me :\ :( Not only did it effect his ability to raise me environmentally like a more normal father, but I've always suspected it ran deeper than this, as the kind of mental issues I have dealt with never really made total sense based on how I was raised alone.

Because boobs literally help create human life, and are a direct sign of health and fertility? There's plenty of other important stuff in life too (vaginas anyone? Penises too!... and coding and design and other hobbies of course) but you have to admit, creatinng human life kindna tops the cake here.

I know it's cliche but they really did have decent articles, and model profiles, I agree that they certainly went beyond simply presenting women for womens sake compared to most. I wonder, what would a magazine look like that still celebrated the naked female physical form but would pass this "wholesome" standard many seem to judge the Playboy magazine of failing to meet. Are naked bodies inherently 'wrong' to be admired? Looking at older issues from the heyday, and they are pretty damn classy. Sometimes I dont think mainstream Western culture will ever escape it's puritanical sex negative roots. Jealousy, envy, lust and insecurities seem so mixed up in the presentation of naked bodies, many will consciously or subconsciously find it inherently distasteful for as far as I can see. I personally think it's unfortunate that all of this baggage has to be so uniformly applied creating an impossible standard. Some times naked beautiful woman are just naked and beautiful, and there isn't anything objectifying to admire this particular trait than there is admiring intelligence. If I exclusively admire a woman's intelligence, am I objectifying her as a computational machine in lue of a sex machine or something? Idk

I don't think it's fair to say that just because he took advantage of that aspect of his celebrity that he had no other life/talents/hobies outside of it. Its just the part we always hear about the most for obvious reasons. It'll take quite a bit to convince me most any human wouldn't gladly have their dream sex life, as well as all the time and money to pursue whatever else as well. It's not like it took up all his time or was challenging to atain what he did sexually, being who he was. I'm sure he fulfilled himself however else he pleased to the fullest extent as well. For me or your average Joe to live like that? Yea it would take all your time money and energy for sure lol

That's looking at his life through a current day PC culture lens... he was the epitome of class and cool in his day, and definitely did his share of fighting for civil rights. He probably could have aged out more gracefully, but he was a product of his times and rich... meh. Even in his older age, he lived perhaps a bit sleazy, but in a "like you wouldn't do the same thing with that kind of money and status" sort of way, if we're all being entirely honest with ourselves.
