I stopped reading at this insanity. I'm usually listening music or radio, or talking to other passengers, I can interact with the car with easier, flawless and much faster buttons.
Modern Standby is an abomination. Battery almost completely depleted in a couple of days doing "nothing" useful for me happens too often.
More sales now, none in the future, though.
I would be surprised if online games use TCP. Anyway, physics is still there and light speed is fast, but that much. In 10ms it travels about 3000km, NZ to US west coast is about 11000km, so less than 60ms is impossible. Cables are probably much longer, c speed is lower in a medium, add network devices latency and 200ms from NZ to USA is not that bad.
It's always been like this, for every decision.

I can only talk about Ford and Italy. Here the owner of the vehicle must give explicit consent to collect and share data with third party. Ford italian branch is very strict about this, first hand experience. I know other european car makers processes are similar, but I have no first hand experience with them.
Coworkers switched from Win11 to Ubuntu, our main Spring Boot project compiled time was cut in half. I guess ntfs is a factor in this specific use case, it's a medium sized project with a few thousands files and classes.
In Italy we had them for 30 years at least, they are everywhere now.
Can't agree more. We read so many books to my kid when se was young that she almost taught herself how to write and read at 5. Now she can read a couple of books per day, thanks god the public library is free and has soo many that she'll always have something to read or I could go bankrupt buying them.
But truly it's up to family to a large degree. When I was a child my mother helped a kid of a working woman to learn to read when he was 10. He was 1 year younger than me, same school and many teachers in common.
In Italy if you want a decent salary after 40 you have to move to a manager position. I truly like coding, but recent organizations changes lead to a change of role for, leading a team of 8 I have no more time to code. I'd like coding also because it's the easy part of the job for me, but a 15% pay-cut is huge when you are making, e.g., less than 40k/year, which average for a programmer in Italy.

It may be EV and infrastructure are just not really there. In Italy outside of cities you have to use a car, no questions. You take a state road or extra-urban and battery range easily drop to 250km at most. There are many charge stations, but often they don't work, or are placed far from needed. Here many have no way to charge at home. And EV prices are far higher than ICE ones, which are insane theirself.
Problematic parts burned down with services module, so no, not going to able to troubleshoot thrusters problems better.

I too still have and use a S10e, 4 years now. Battery is still the factory one, down to 79% real capacity (in Italy official replacement costs about 65€, probably I'll get one). For me, it's still the best phone. Company gave me a Motorola Edge 50 Fusion that's good, probably a bit snappier, but much bigger, so for my stuff I'm sticking with the S10e. For the first time I have no reason to upgrade but software updates, which is pity given the still good overall performance. I know I shouldn't for security reasons, but for now I'm keeping it until it's completely wore out.
I turned staff engineer a year and half ago, almost stopped developing, from time to time I have to, especially to take over tasks of people on summer vacation, having ChatGPT to help with small python scripts and GO apps was very helpful and time saving. I would not use it for full development tasks, but for small things is easy to understand what's wrong (and so far, there was always something wrong).
I had a very old HP laptop. I installed Ubuntu 20.04, no problems. Laptop board died. I bought a mini pc, different CPU and GPU. I moved Ubunuty SSD from HP laptop to mini pc as it was, and it worked. Without doing anything all was running: wifi, gpu, bluetooth (even better than corporate Win11 laptop). I run Steam and I was playing just like before my old games. Magic.
I'm out of the loop, anyone knows if performance improved aince 2020?
Soon migrating part of DC to Oracle Cloud (don't ask...), a consultancy firm will do the job, all VM will be on AMD CPUs.
I think one of the reasons Apple feels entitled to do this is almost monopolistic US market share. People should stop buying iPhones for this, but it's not hard to foreseen it won't happen.
Windows sleep mode is power hungry since the introduction of Modern Standby that allow for network connections even during sleep mode.

It's the business that pays the wages. Also, time to market is most important (for everyone but Apple), coming later with a better product often doesn't mean a viable business. Problem is almost nobody is promoted for maintaining or improving an existing product, no C-level is interested in tech debt management/reduction, anywhere.
It's Apple, it's not the first time they try malicious compliance way, it won't be the last, it really seems to be the only way they can comply with the law.
