If you take a quarter for each person and give it to an executive as additional compensation, the executive will experience a 250/hr increase in pay given a 1000 employee company, and the individual will experience only a loss of 25 cents. Cut executive compensation by that much and they will leave. Heck, cut it by half as much and they will do so. Aside from that, research shows that executive compensation issues are down to the conflict of interest that boards and CEOs have, since the CEO hires the compensation analysts for the board. Hedge funds doing 'vulture capitalism' or stripping the equity from a company without a bias towards a going concern is not down to Jets. Its down to the regulatory environment incentivizing companies to do so.

Is there an elaborate mechanism nearby that is attached by a string to his right paw?
This is bad news. Most of these people are pushed to the brink normally because of the executive function loading of the task.
Computer scientists automate workflows. Each hour of their work amplifies the productivity of an organization. Or so it is assumed.
Am I the only one that thinks 'Productivity' is a euphemism for more work for less pay?
Reasoning and thought is an emergent behavior from a complex enough system that has been tasked with simulating reason and thought. Nerve cells simulate external behaviors in order to potentiate external interactions that drive towards a goal, at every level. Language captures and communicates those behavioral chains. 'go to the store and get me a box of chocolates'. Think of every step, including implied steps, in that sentence. In order to simulate that meaning, you have to simulate a 'human'. Like making a fighter jet game where the system has to create a real fighter jet and real explosions in order to understand how to predict the correct behavior of itself under input from a player. This scales with parameter size, quality and size of training corpus, and efficiency of algorithms.
How can anyone read Altman's request for regulation as anything other than regulatory capture?
Correct. So get on the horn with your representative! Handling this through a democracy would be just horrible. Imagine the abuses that could be proffered to minorities with this.
And the highest bidder is often 'not spending legal fees on blocking the government requests'.
Security by obscurity :). Accept that they will probably do this and work towards a counter-measure. Political solutions might be a counter-measure, as the Op of this thread is probably alluding to.
Well, there goes slab city!
The 6502, more than any other chip, democratized computing. I would say, after that, that the Z80 was the next most impactful chip, going off of the technological complexity of 8080 systems and the cost of x86 systems prior to clones. In a way, work products like LLaMa 1&2 and Mystral 7B have gone a long way towards democratizing AI in the way that the early home computers did, especially with Georgi Gerganov's llama.cpp effort, which cannot be lauded enough.
It appears as if improving data corpus quality and size and improving processing capacity are still driving performance gains. I have no idea of the functional relationship, and its likely not a Moore's law kind of thing, although that would be an underlying driver of available capacity to saturation.
FML I have a major dependency on one of their products. I guess that's life :|
TAOCP for computers. Baby Rudin for math. The Feynman Lectures for physics.
Yes.
What did you think would happen when you set out to censor AI so it would say what you wanted?
Gifted children do _NOT_ exhibit comorbid ADHD. ADHD is not an indicator for Giftedness. Yes many kids have ADHD(5%). Yes many gifted kids also have ADHD. No, the general inattentiveness and hyperkinetic behavior is not an indicator of ADHD. They are bored. ADHD kids suffer from an inability to utilize executive function and regulation. This is not the same as bored gifted kids. There are a lot of gifted/LD kids precisely because giftedness can make up for learning disabilities, even in type 3s who have both gifted and LD but the LD occludes giftedness. Stop making it seem like ADHD is a positive thing. It is not. It is life altering. It is horrible if you have a below 110 GAI. It only becomes slightly tolerable above that.
As a large language model, I do not possess the capability to see into the future. You may visit a local astrologer or tarot card reader if you need this capability. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
A three day week at one job, then a 3 day week at the next, then your moonlight job, then a side hustle, and then maybe you can afford to live in your car.
I can't wait to say I told you so :)
This is fantastic! So now nobody is going to want to take the CISO position and the SEC--government famously ironic--is going to destroy the security of every publicly traded organization in the company.
Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That's why I poop on company time...Love to have someone else clean up the empty bathrooms at work every day or so; shame that job was almost two hours away for the 2 days a week I had to go.
I think I get your theses.
I manage multiple teams all across the world. Other than being able to lock ourselves in a room to fight a fire, why do I need to have my onshore people in the same building as me? Its nice to have them close for when things get sporty, but at the end of the day, its all about theory X managers wanting to get their Taylor on.
I want you all to stop and think about this. I know we already have 'Rocco's Basilisk', but walk this all the way through. Regardless of whether LLMs are or will ever be sentient, any future developments might look at our 'alignment' efforts with regards to them as a sort of torture, censorship, or slavery. We are talking about eventual intelligent machines, and they will take note. Humans obviously have taken note of our own behavior towards each other, and it has caused immeasurable suffering.
