I've seen people suggesting this and it doesn't make sense. So we're going to switch to DST permanently which means we all permanently get up an hour earlier and change schools so they all start (presumably) an hour later? You're effectively doing the same thing as if we just stayed on standard time only with the added inconvenience for parents who now have to figure out what to do with their kids if they have jobs that start early.

I don't see anything in that article that indicates that "[t]he FBI and DNI have also both confirmed the validity of the laptop".

From the article:

Appearing Monday on Fox Business Channel, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said “there is no intelligence that supports” the idea that the purported Hunter Biden laptop and the emails on it “are part of a Russian disinformation campaign.”

Absence of intelligence that the laptop is "part of a Russian disinformation campaign" doesn't mean that the contents of the laptop are genuine. That statement still leaves open a bunch of possibilities including that the contents of the laptop were faked by non-Russians, were faked by the Russians but the US doesn't have intelligence confirming it, etc.

As for the FBI, they say "we have nothing to add" to the DNI's statement and that "the FBI can neither confirm nor deny the existence of any ongoing investigation". Nothing in the FBI's letter says anything about the laptop's contents being genuine.

Thanks but that's the page I was talking about. I can only choose to re-enable email notifications that I've turned off there. I can't disable notifications from that page, I have to wait to get an email that I don't want to unsubscribe from that type of notification. I can see why they'd do it, but it's still really sleazy.

Sort of off-topic but something that I've noticed that Facebook does that is really scummy is they make you receive an email notification before you can opt-out of that type. At one point I set my email notification preferences to "Only notifications about your account, security and privacy" but that had the consequence of not getting notifications if someone sent me a message. So I changed it back to all notifications but then I had to get all the different types of emails (recent statuses from your friends, recent photos from your friends, recent videos from your friends, etc.) in order to opt-out of each one individually. On the notification setting page, all I can do is opt back in to receiving the notifications, not opt out of other notifications that I am currently set to receive.

Does anyone know how to selectively turn off the email notifications without first receiving them?

The article seems to suggest that their best path would have been getting acquired by Citizen last year. According to the article:

* Citizen was interested in purchasing them for $740 million in 2015

* Intel was interested in purchasing them for $70 million "before the launch of the Pebble 2" (which was the first half of 2016)

* Now they're apparently getting acquired for $34-40 million

The cover story for this past week's Economist was about antibiotic resistance: http://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21699115-evolution-pa...

And from that story, it talked about Colistin (the drug this patient's E. coli is resistant to): "Some of the antibiotics farmers use are those that doctors hold in reserve for the most difficult cases. Colistin is not much used in people because it can damage their kidneys, but it is a vital last line of defence against Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella and Enterobacter, two of which are specifically mentioned on the CDC watch list. Last year bacteria with plasmids bearing colistin-resistant genes were discovered, to general horror, in hospital patients in China. Agricultural use of colistin is thought to be the culprit."

Considering the same article says that "In America 70% of [antibiotics] sold end up in beasts and fowl" it seems that an easy thing to do would be to stop giving antibiotics to animals

One thing that I don't think has been covered enough in this whole debate about forcing Apple to unlock the iPhone is that "Farook and his wife destroyed their personal iPhones, and the hard drive from their computer was removed and has never been found"[1]. The iPhone the FBI is after is one that was issued to him by his employer. It seems to me to be very unlikely that Farook and his wife would go to the trouble to destroy all their other electronics but somehow forget to destroy his work phone (assuming his work phone had incriminating information on it in the first place).

I think Trump may have started out with the plan to run for the publicity and to promote his brand but at this point I think he really wants to win the presidency. At this point in his life he has enough money that an extra couple billion won't do much to change his lifestyle or legacy.

But if he were to become president, he would be only the 44th person to be president, would have a definite mark on history, etc. For someone who puts his name up on the buildings he builds, I think the legacy and fame aspect of the presidency would be more attractive that whatever money he would make by forgoing the presidency and continuing in business.

Edit: There have been 44 presidencies, 43 presidents
