It's rich for a TV exec to call YouTube 'slop'. Compared to traditional TV, where 1/3rd or more of your time is spent watching ads for prescription drugs or fake silver coins, the YouTubers I watch put much more thought and artistic energy into what they produce than the laugh track trash on TV.

I don't really sample them, but if I want to know more about a subject I will normally ask for a book recommendation to go along with it.

I'm wondering if authors are making the same mistakes that the music industry did with Napster and kazaa. Using AI has led to more book purchases for me. If I discover and enjoy a book via AI I'm more inclined to buy it. The cats out of the bag, so pet him.

Probably a good number are scalpers, but also some really disorganized people too. You can get stuck with extra theme camp tickets if you're not careful.

If you're part of a theme camp you normally buy as many tickets as youre allotted during the theme camp sale. This sale happens before the public one and the reason you buy as many as you can is because for the last 10 years getting a ticket in the public sale is a lottery. After the public sale you normally redistribute your extra tickets to people who want to camp with you.

The public sale this year was probably pretty easy to get tickets, so people might be stuck with theme camp tickets. Also, BM delayed mailing physical tickets this year to try and boost sales during their final OMG sale. BM did their best to try and screw people too.

Great. The super rich can and should donate their after tax money to the charities of their choosing. The rest of us should work on creating efficient and effective government programs so that tax dollars go to where we vote them to.

I'm curious but why do you think you're not qualified to say the rich shouldn't pay more, but still feel qualified to say these programs are diversions that won't do any good?

Target, at least around here is doing whatever it can to keep your from coming into the store. Sometimes the prices are higher than if you did a pickup, the store is a disorganized disaster and the checkout lines are massive. Target is no better than Walmart these days.

Safety from law breakers (speeders) is not a right in the US. 'Safety' isn't even a right. I'm not sure why you'd elevate someone's safety from a specific thing to a right yet make a person's autonomy a liberty. Also you're restricting the liberties of the driver (a specific, identifiable person in the case of non-autonomous vehicles) in favor of people who may not even exist (other drivers or pedestrians may not even be around) which seems draconian. When you pass these laws and restrictions, what are you giving up? Isn't someone's sense of self control and autonomy worth something to society?

What about my neighbors who might be child abductors or rapists? Or the animals, like a beer or eagle who might fly away with my kid? There's always something to be afraid of for people who are afraid.

I constantly see people say RTO is driven by landlords but Ive never seen any data to back this up. Is there really any proof to this or is it just an opinion that's restated over and over? For context, I work remotely and will never return to an office unless I'm at risk of losing my house.

Harold Dodge said "You can't inspect quality into a system". The father of quality assurance, Edward Deming, understood this when he taught quality control to companies in post war Japan. The US learned these lessons during WWII and promptly forgot them. Increasing inspections doesn't prevent screw ups, it only catches them. You're still wasting money and time on mistakes, some of which will still go undetected by inspection. Just like you can't unit test quality into a crappy dev team. Quality is a cultural value that's built into the system and Boeings culture seems to be garbage.

I totally agree. I think we're still in the golden age of YouTube and YouTube red w/ YouTube music is totally worth the $15 or whatever I pay every month. I have YouTube on in the background for hours and use it to look stuff up all the time. If you don't want to see ads, pay for the ad free service! Especially since it's cheap as shit compared to cable. It blows my mind that people expect these free services. I am totally pro paying a small amount for services I value (and I do) than only have a crappy free ad filled option. I pay for kagi, I pay for YouTube and I pay my favorite creators via patreon or whatever because I want them to be able to keep doing whatever they're doing.

Even as someone who has been a dev for 5 years I only know him as that gross guy who likes free software. Note that 'gross guy' is the main point here. He has failed to communicate any nuance to his message. Another person might have 80% the same opinion as him but be able to reach 200% of the people as him by way of not having such a bad reputation. If the free software 'movement' wants to move anyone they need to get out of their own way.

Also, that very phone was once a daily driver that people excited to upgrade to! Phones have gotten incrementally better since then but haven't seen a revolutionary jump in a while. The only sacrifice you might have to live with is slightly worse pictures.

Everyone is still there hanging out in the camping section. Riding a bike or walking on the wet playa is super tough as it cakes everywhere and super slippery. Not there now but was there when I rained a bunch in 2014.

I'm from a state with a long history of manufacturing and aerospace. The people who make F-35s are paid at least 75k without any qualifications and can take home much more than that if they choose to work OT. Definitely no need for low income housing for that crowd.
