How many cars are actually like that? I only know a few people with newer (2020+) cars and all of them have physical controls as well as touch screen controls. They're all Asian cars so maybe that's why, but anecdotally I've never seen a car completely controlled by a touchscreen.

In my opinion, the difference is that insta (Meta) controls US government more than the government controls insta. I don't believe that's the case with tik tok and the CCP.

To elaborate on the other comment, the ideal gas law isn't applicable when you can add or remove energy/mass to the system. There's no reason you can't pack a refrigerator sized chamber with enough air to be high pressure at a low temperature. Based on the equation, you get to choose what n is so you if you set T to a normal refrigerator temp of ~4C then you can vary n to get whatever P you want. I hope that made sense.

I don't think anyone minds that rust has multiple string types just that they're effectively named the same thing so people new to rust have no clue which does what without looking it up. Furthermore people without c/c++ experience mostly wont even know there is a difference since most languages don't give you that control over strings.

If rust string were str and strvec or strbuf no one would care.

You're getting lots of explanations for why people don't switch to rust, mostly existing projects, but I'd like to point out that plenty of people still start new projects in C++ as well. Most game dev has to be c/c++ if you want to release on consoles. This isn't technically true, but in practice it is most of the time. Not everybody wants to program in rust's pseudo-functional style. Some people like C because if you can generally map nice C code to its assembly in your head.

In my opinion, memory safety also gets a little overblown. Most applications don't really need memory safety, and for the ones that do, C++ smart pointers are good enough. I'm sure plenty of people will have strong opinions against that.

Ultimately there is this sort of energy towards c++ because there are orders of magnitude more projects and developers that use C++, and it would be silly to stop work on C++ every time a C++ killer came along.

The pro rust comments on rust posts are great. The pro rust comments on every other post about any other language are not as great.

I think regardless of the fact that it is technically possible with any hardware and any operating system, it is difficult to argue that the risk is the same on Linux as it is on windows or ChromeOS.

I doubt ChromeOS or windows are spying on you through your camera either when you are or are not using it, but people can be sure their Linux distro isn't.

The other guy is arguing that you don't have to accept that risk at all if you don't use an OS from a data harvesting company.

I don't care who watches me through my camera, I was just trying to point out that people aren't stupid about the hardware switch. Some just find it ironic that there is a hardware shut off for a camera on a computer operated by Google.

My memory isn't 100% but they essentially said that most players are actually unlikely to be toxic with any regularity. Typically players will have a bad game, and they will lash out. They said that for players that are habitually toxic, a short ban (I think 2 weeks is standard) significantly reduces the chance of reoffending. For players with repeat bans for harassment or aggression they get permanently banned or eventually quit because of frequent longer bans.

Most of their communication should still be online in some form whether on their website or reddit. All this is just from my memory so subject to misremembering.

It would need to last 3 times longer before needing a single replacement part for the cost to lifetime ratio to even out. Each replacement part in that timeframe pushes the value time out further. I'm not convinced it would be cheaper in the long run.

It's not hard for anyone to understand. If you're worried that the OS is hijacking your camera, why would you stop being worried just because you're using the camera.

This has been discussed by the community for as long as I've been playing (2012ish), and rito has said they won't do it because it creates a "prisoners island" type situation where all the mean players end up playing together and player retention drops. They argue its much better to attempt to rehabilitate rude players, but this was back when riot Lyte was doing his thing. I don't know if they spoken on the subject since.
