Its like riding the bus. There's nothing wrong with public transit, its just that its somewhere warm for poor homeless people to sit all winter, so its not very cool.
Public transport often is the best and most efficient way to move within a city where I live, or in places like London, Stockholm, Berlin or quite a lot of other European cities.
Its a social class thing. Homeless people sit alone
Really? Anyone sitting alone is a homeless one? Anyone without a shitty Apple product is poor?
Homeless people don't read
WTF. This one made me laugh out loud. You must not have had much contact to homeless people. I have had quite a few acquaintances in my lifetime being homeless, worked with them, did social work on the side. And I got to know so many different people with different interests. Yes, a few were the stereotypical homeless person depicted in mass media. A few were highly functional members of society, had a day job 9to5 - and still lived on the street. Many had read way more books than myself - and I am an avid reader.
What is it with this stereotyping of people.
So surfing with an adblocking solution actually is green/carbon saving?
Am I reading this right?
But even though you might get a quote-unquote promotion and be paid more, the technical specialists still might be excluded from high-level conversations. [...]
I hear you. Not only that. In our case - even if by regulation expert track and managerial track should be seen and compensated the same I know that lots of managers not only are compensated in the upper quartiles of the distribution, while experts overwhelmingly are compensated in the lower rungs. No managers also are fast tracked more easily for promotions making the factual gap even wider.
I know of executives that ensure, that experts are always one level below respective managers, even if they should be on the same hierarchical level.
We got bought by Accenture some time back.
After we were on system amd thelr regular processes were in place suddenly a lot of people got a massive raise to match the min amount of money this position at this seniority level has to earn.
So far so good. But imagine the surprise of management when people weren't happy about the raise (10 20+ percent in not few cases) but a lot of resentment was voiced for being paid too little for years stating that there isn't enough money for raises and once big corporate brother rules that there is a minimum salary to be paid the money can be shelled out.
I can totally relate with the colleagues who are currently looking at other options because they feel that they were lied to over the years.
Thanks for the clear and concise way of summarizing my thoughts of the last few months.
I am in a situation where I actually have near absolute safety and nearly no control over the projects. It was even worse in 2020 regarding control after being thrown into a toxic project by a CEO who always touts the motto "no a**holes".
Well when pitching for the biggest budget in the history of the org reality is what counts. Not nice mottos.
So I agree. Everytime I hear this bs about being a team/family/safe place I just think: STFU and pay me. I do my work. Nothing more, nothing less.
I would ask, how he can sleep at night knowing that women earn significantly less than their male counterparts. Or how he would explain around 100% difference in salaries for the exact same job depending on the person.
I can attest that the second modus operandi is the way long time contracts work from my experience.
Nearly every time all the knowledge and skills necessary are hidden and fragmented inside our client's org. With our access through all the management layers and silos we could work to fullfil the contract and also enable change within the client organisation and culture.
But why kill the golden goose? Our higher people' bonuses depend on us being the glue as someone else wrote in another comment. And a lot of my colleagues actually on the client's really do a great job in opening lines of communication. They work their a*es of to help the client.
Sadly helping isn't a monetary long term strategy for upper levels.
In the end
From my contract, there is no overtime pay. Overtime has to be given as free time within a specific amount of time after the overtime occurred.
But for any rolling period of x timeunits (don't want to be too specific obviously) I have a specific amount of hours of overtime that the company doesn't need to compensate in free time. In my case this is ~20% of my regular time in ever rolling period.
But up to a maximum amount of overtime hours per year. This max amount is short of 10% of my yearly hours.
So in the end I have to accept about 10% overtime just already compensated with my contract.
Correct. The separation did happen before the former parent was involved in the Enron scandal. Or at least before it became public.
Not that Accenture doesn't have enough scandals on their own. So they are by far not the clean guys in this tale.
I remember the German "Berateraffäre" just to state one example.
Throwaway for obvious reasons
I work for a company belonging to Accenture.
I can only agree. Shareholders get +10%. Employees get nil.
It is expected that we do at least 15 - 25% overtime without compensation. Project manager promises everything the client asks for. Even if they know we cannot in any universe deliver this without massive overtime. At the same time they introduce new mandatory processes to follow costing additional time.
Performance management is a joke. Employee development non existent. Promotion and raises have nothing to do with performance. If managing directors do not like you, you are out of luck as they ultimately decided on your salary, promotion and bonuses.
I am still there because I can only switch jobs after Sept 2021 for private reasons.
After that it is jobhunting season.
If anyone is of the opinion that you do not deserve adequate pay, can be bullied by project managers or others - do yourself a favor and look for another company that does value you.
