Most of the JS bloat comes from really aggressive analytics, error tracking, and a/b testing. Not many developers are willing or given approval to remove these features up for smaller bundle sizes.

Anything under $2.25/watt would put it within under a 4 year payback period, Alberta has good rates for solar. Rooftop solar doesn't have operating costs that I can think of unless you want to clean them and clear snow which is optional. And inverters usually have a 20-25 year warranty.

This makes perfect sense for a headless CMS. An editor might upload changes or a new article a few times per day/week into a database through a headless CMS. A webserver could make a request to the headless CMS/database for every web page load, but if the content doesn't change then the webpage can be computed and served statically. The web server can compute just the changes per page or regenerate the whole site on any change on the backend.

Free streets are a handout to suburbanites that drive in and don't have to deal with constant congestion, pollution, noise, and collisions that people living in the congestion zone have to deal with.

Disconnecting from the grid is overly romanticized. What you get from paying the utilities is a team of people who will fix equipment issues due to failure or the environment. If your home battery system has issues, scheduling someone could take a day or more. Off grid electrical services isn't popular enough to be on call 24/7. And getting parts may get take even more time. Equipment failure could take your electricity out for days or weeks. Being fully off grind means over provisioning your electrical storage and production, adding to costs. You also would not be able to sell your excess electricity. Also, in terms of house value, I imagine more people value the peace of mind of a connected electrical grid over saving the small fixed monthly connection fee.

People go broke if their utilities go up $100 a month. It's better if houses were built to not depend on volatile energy prices. Net zero homes basically move the monthly utility cost from an ongoing variable bill and basically prepays it into the mortgage which would have more predicable pricing. All that extra cost should also stay as value to the house.

People rent detached homes to families all the time. My sister does it and I live next to a family who rents a detached home. Why would the viewpoint of owners be any different with renting apartments to families??

This isn't some unknown town that put in a lot of planning, money, and effort to create demand. The only thing of "value" that happened was that a state full of good weather and jobs was monopolized early with low density housing. I don't know of any small towns that don't want more growth. Asking for more planning is only used in areas of rampant speculation.

Also the whole idea behind the suburban experiment was the idea that it was a finished state. That there was absolutely no need to densify or plan for growth, because more suburban land could just be annexed.

I am starting to think zoning is completely outdated now. It may have been needed during industrialization when people did not understand pollution and fire safety. I think the only strict zoning needed is heavy/medium industrial. I think people have a good idea of what to expect from certain buildings and industries and people can raise concern on a case by case basis.

Making it smaller does add physics based safety features that couldn't be achieved otherwise.

I think he means having a duct work for the whole house for a central heat pump is good. But having a heat pump per zone is also good if you don't have ducts for the whole house. Some newer home designs separate heating and cooling from the air exchange systems so there are multiple zones of heating and cooling.
