Oh man! That hot swap method! I remember my computer, running Linux (which freaked 14 year old me out) from a live cd, case open, and plugging in the hdd while the Xbox and pc was on.

When I switched from Intel Mac to the M2, I was easily able to get my Linus and windows VMs running again.

As well as my intel apps. Was pretty smooth and the speed and power efficiency gains are obvious. My mac book air draws about 5w total while the DAW is cool as a cucumber.

This resonates with me. My computers used to crash at the app level, OS level or hardware level.

Now when something goes wrong the system just kinda gets lazy and stops working. But it won’t crash.

I’ve had my mac pinwheel on the login screen. I can still access the shell and file shares remotely, and even screen share to a logged in user.

But login.app refuses to crash so it’ll just pinwheel.

I’m glad I never forgot to turn things off and on for troubleshooting :(

Autosave also has versioning. You can always go back through the auto save history. You can also revert to the original opened file. This is done from the file menu.

Also, if like a good mac user you have Time Machine configured and on, you can browse your versions further into the past.

Thanks yes I think I remember my whole semiconductor education to be wishy washy (according to the lecturer) even at the undergrad level. Pretty complicated stuff and I think the ‘band gap’ model is a bit of a stretch of the quantum mechanics that is occurring.

I would agree. Having said that I still think it was a bit wishy washy. The whole treatment of band gap energies I think is quite complicated beyond the simple diagram shown.

I think the have a pci-e card on the computer playing the game. The card sends hardware level debugging information (memory dma) to another computer.

This second computer is connected to the first computer by usb, to spoof a HID (mouse, keyboard, controller etc). It reads the data from the pci card on the first computer and sends inputs via usb.

Done right, and it can’t be detected via software. Behaviour analysis still works for aim hacks.

Now days I think there are even devices that will tap the hdmi stream and use the video data to calculate inputs and the send the input via usb/hid/controller. This works on console I think!

While I absolutely love the convenience of tap and pay systems, cash competes in many ways and we should not let the system slip away. The most obvious and egregious manifestation of this in my country is that they are not introducing new denominations. I used to be able to get coffe and breakfast with coins, now I need multiple notes.

They already introduced new designs of the old denominations that required cash machines to be updated for, so it’s doable.

Also apps and or websites pausing my music but play no sound… ugh. I want an iPod.app to come along.

Tiny player does nice but the os level issues are getting insane.

I’m too young to understand how plugin architecture worked for old browsers (flash, java, what else am I forgetting).

I’m guessing it was some horrible unsafe C interrop mess with close ties to the kernel. Or maybe there was no samdboxing and security built in like there is these days.

Anyone able to shed some light on how it worked and why it was so easy to exploit flash and therefore the whole system? Was it the same for Java applets?

Why can’t it show me the good old content on the internet instead of pages of blog spam made by AI? Obviously they used to show me the old content but apparently users only want new content now…

Also arguably you only need balanced when the noise gets way too much. When driving a speaker the power audio signal is much much much higher than any noise being picked up over a reasonable length.

For lengths longer than that, balanced cables (or digital signals over Ethernet) are used and the speaker has more local amplification.
