Uh oh -- we should ban this secondary school thing

I hate it so much. So arbitrary and capricious. I would say this is currently the number one blocker for the web as a serious platform. And they're doing it on purpose.
Are you serious? The app store standard cut is like 30%.
the user is probably a teacher interested in disabling it for their students
The article was obviously horseshit -- and I hate google. But if your search for "running clothes" was getting replaced with "addidas running clothes" you would see clearly in the results. Degraded as it is, I still get results that include the specific words I searched in most situations. That type of replacement would be immediately and obviously apparent.
You standing on this system like it is worth defending is pathetic. You are lower than a worm if you can't see the inhumanity of the system and how defending it is anti-human. If I heard you say something like this in person you wouldn't do it again.
You are my hero
I've seen some awesome demos of exactly this, ingesting priors and all of that.
theres no argument. They productionized a docs example, something I did consider too shameless to try. Wish I had tried. Kudos to this dev he is rolling in the cash.
there is literally a "how to" in the open AI api docs for the exact use case. I need to be more shameless the next go around.
They pay in crypto! Would be a shame if revolt was updating to poke around for crypto assets to pay for itself.
that doesn't make you moral! Have a great day!
That doesnt make any builder a good person! Have a great day! Everyone at palatir is evil by nature!
I think as an industry we need to disrespect these people in person when we see them! This is unacceptable and anti social behavior and if I ever see Sam Altman I'll let him know!
People love to kowtow to these assholes as they walk all over us. Fuck sam. Fuck other sam. Fuck elon. Fuck zuck. Fuck jack. Fuck these people man. I dont care about your politics this is nasty!
OpenAI provides a demo to do this in their docs:
https://platform.openai.com/docs/tutorials/web-qa-embeddings
IME doing this task the scraping isn't easy to generalize. the embed / chat part is honestly low hanging fruit on top of the openAI api. if you're capable of scraping the content you want to do this with I'd say whip it up yourself. its a 15m project.
Interesting and low price you are putting there on a humans life.
its not naive. this isn't a problem you're likely to run into or have to work around. It is a thing that pedantic people bring up to justify the trouble they have keeping up with the pace of change in front end dev.
Can you elaborate on what this issue prevents you from doing? I write production react code that is used in medical devices every single day and I have never had this problem stop me from developing a particular screen or piece of functionality, and I use pretty much every niche edge web API that there is.
Hooks has made me 3-4x more productive. If a technicality is stopping you from enjoying it, that is such a shame.
if you don't have the leeway to say "I was looking at the 4chan thread where metas LLM was leaked" you shouldnt even be on hacker news tbh. get back to work!
there is no good reason to have notifications on the web. its just for ads.
Consumer protection agencies in the USA have no teeth any more. We're getting fucked by everyone.
This demonstrates a truly thorough misunderstanding of technology at hand
"The information was readily available to anyone doing even the most basic due diligence"
This is just provably not true. if you can find 3 credible people saying that FTX was lending out customer funds to the tune of $5+bn before 10/31/2022 I'll eat my shoe. the smartest critics in the room were taken as much by surprise at the extent of the crash and contagion as the most idiot-degen-ape. and it doesn't do anyone any favors to pretend it was obvious.
Twitter is just web dev stuff
put it on a shirt. twitter is the .01% of web dev. what they do isn't easy and there are no right answers.
"support ticket that really pisses off everyone in my team, and indeed every support engineer, and software engineer I've ever worked with"
I'm sorry to to be the one to break this to you -- you have only worked with bad engineers.
If you get a bug report like this, where some simple user action like typing three characters is causing client devices to crash, you better be more mad at your busted ass system than a sparse bug report.
also can you please explain why you have all of these quotes about elon on deck.... are you elon? or just a little obsessed
Yea definitely a similar usage to hating, being a hater.
I didn't meant to paint stupid as an absolute. He is smart too. Some of the smartest people I know are some of the stupidest people I know and vice versa -- its all relative. I think in this arena he's behaving stupidly. I mean hey I think he does in those other arena too but I'm not going to argue against technical people that have been in those rooms with him.
Or -- he's stupid.
