Mailinglists are great, because more and more people do no longer know how to use email or follow the instructions to sign up for a mailinglist, so many interesting people tend to gather around the lists.

I believe that the majority of child bearers are "on program" driven by their biological imperatives. I believe that among the voluntary non-children people (of which I am one) there's plenty of values, goals, hopes and aspirations. In fact, for me, life is so rich that that is why I do not want children.

There's billions of people all over the planet to carry the burden for me. Sure, if we were in an extinction scenario, I might reconsider, but we're far, far from it.

This is the way. But what is interesting to contemplate is _why_ smart people try to reinvent religion. I think it reflects their deep need for meaning and immortality. Religion in the naive sense, a bunch of stories, myths and bearded gods, if obviously silly and childish. The modern rationalist who has not managed to shed his reflex/need for religion, then reifies (or perhaps better said... "deifies") information, and thus introduces all kinds of potential immortality and an ideal realm. Just like the myths of religion did, in a more naive sense, since time immemorial.

Can you prove that? The EU is fully free to decide on laws that hit exclusively US companies if they so want, with the hope of being able to generate revenue.

Another indicator, that this is indeed a new business for the EU, is to look at the difference between southern europe and northern europe when it comes to the size of GDPR fines. It's enormous. Children are not god for peace of mind and a life of liberty. I do not recommend anyone to have children, becaues of how negatively it affects your life, cost of living etc. It is basically just tying yourself down to the wheel of consumption, and in order to jutsify everything, all the struggle, push your hopes and aspirations to the next generation, and then letting them deal with it.

If you are rich, you can get around this by hiring people to take care of the children, so then it could be possible, but it will still be a huge financial burden.

I think rather, that it is the EU who cannot live without US cloud services and AI-services. Imagine if the US, behind closed doors of course, threatened to cut off all cloud services. Huge parts of the public and private sector could collapse.

This is incorrect binary thinking. Them releasing open source can be good, but that does not commit you to think that china or chinese companies are saints. There are many shades of grey here and one does not exclude the other (nor include it).

This is the way! Open source models will benefit, and once open source models reach the state of "good enough" the hyped up US AI companies will fear, since the availability of free, good enough, AI models will set the ceiling for how much they can charge. Then the bubble will pop.
