Another benefit of Religion is community. I recall back when we went to Church we had tons of people who took the time to reach out when things weren't going well.

You could go down to a record store, hosting a trivia night, that's a game. Then buy some records, and talk to a nice potential partner.

Since I'm ranting, I don't see getting trapped in the Social Media matrix as being good for anyone. The old fashioned way to meet folks was to be active in your community. Since that's now seen as optional we have an entire generation of isolated miserable people.

The Social Media Dilemma ( Netflix movie )goes into greater detail , but you need real life human interaction to function. I know I've had no issue making friends (etc), since I became social media free.

The world is an awesome place. Instead of wasting money on Tinder Passport, you can get a real passport and see new places. A flight to Europe can be as low as 300$ !

Everyone can access all the above the services via the original personal computing device, a PC.

Other roads exists. If I have a private road, but 3 or 4 other roads still go to the same place you can't drive over my gate since you feel like it

If you have a decent gaming PC Microsoft will still take care of you.

This means that thousands of high-quality games go completely unnoticed and die a quiet death. Unless you have that star power to get people paying attention in the first place, or you win the social media lottery and go viral, you're probably toast.

Games can take thousands of people to make, from coding to marketing. Maybe one or two will be able to start a new company with any success. I do really like John Romero's smaller projects though.

The EU has been doing a great job when it comes to safeguarding user privacy. Tons of apps that require your location for one purpose, end up selling it to third-party brokers for other reasons. The EU was able to find this in one of their reports.

I really hope all nations start to implement serious controls here. In my opinion you should need a license store user location data and they should be revoked immediately if you're found not protecting it, or retaining it longer than you need to.

For example a rideshare service should only store your location for the duration of your ride and then should delete it within 10 days or so. I love ridesharing, but I don't like the idea of someone being able to know everywhere I've been for the last 2 years.

Right now I'm primarily using Game pass to play games on my Android phone, and at that it's doing a very good job. As a very surprising bonus, I saw flight simulator was included. This is downright aggressive of Microsoft. They're bundling a $60 game with a $15 a month service. Meaning even if you don't particularly like streaming games, you get your money's worth as long as every three months or so Microsoft adds another $60 game.

Of course since we all forget things, eventually you'll let Game pass keep recurring while sparsely using the service. This Gym like model is what every subscription service strives for.

I'm not complaining, if anything I might buy a new Xbox since I'm already entitled to tons of Gamepass games as well as Xbox live.

I have a nice full time job so I can support myself, I don't think I'd abandon the project if I get bad feedback at this stage. I'd probably just tweak it , if 6k in I still can't make it fun then I'll call it a learning experience

Great movie that I agree with 1000% . I suggest Lost Connections and 10 Arguments for deleting your social media ( mentioned in the movie) as well. I stopped using all social media as of last year and the results have been amazing.

I'm more at peace , I no longer getting into stupid Facebook arguments. Online you aren't interacting with whole people, so being absurdly mean is easy.

Most people online are just their for validation( or are bots , see the Ashley Madison hack and the FTC complaint against the Match Group). At this point in my life I'm no longer seeking that. Plus , as the movie points out constant validation seeking will wreck your mental health.

I was having an amazing time meeting folks pre Covid and I have a plan to become more active whenever this ends. I'm thinking I'll try improv. Being around people does something for you that internet interactions simply can't.

If the service is worth 150k a year, you could of sold it for 75k. Then it becomes possible to hire someone else to handle the day to day.

The current defacto situation involves millions of renters just being unable to pay. They can't be evicted in most of America.

Landlords are going to lose money.

Flipping your final line around, how would the elderly widow relying on renting out her former family home handle receiving no income for a year?

She still will not get any income until the eviction moratorium is lifted. The only thing she can do is sue her tenants for money they don't have. Even in good times evictions can take months to a year.

It can be argued this is the risk of doing business. If tenants can't pay they can't.

The backlog of evictions ( which are one of the most stressful things you can experience) will clog courts. At least if we establish renters will not be able to pay, we can develop an alternative plan. Better to have a plan than saying everyone has to survive the best they can.

Someone with an economic degree would work out the details. Obviously I can't write a full relief bill in a comment

How is any family, which was already living paycheck to paycheck ever going to sort that out. What's going to happen is tons of Americans are simply not going to be able to pay, their credits will be ruined and the rent won't be paid anyway.

It would be nice to present a goal, no one pays rent until we have a functioning economy again, and then sort out the details a bit later. The government could forgive property taxes as well, Banks could delay mortgage payments until the end of the pandemic.

I spoke to one friend who was three months behind on rent at a point. Telling him to Buck up and figure it out, isn't going to do any good. Money ultimately is an abstraction, as a society we very much can shape the rules around it. I can't imagine millions of homeless families being worse than landlords having to seek out different arrangements with their Banks.

Overalla lot of people aren't going to be able to pay rent through no fault of their own, they shouldn't be evicted as punishment. Or you can tell me ,how would anyone catch up on a year of rent once the eviction moratorium is over ?

Jaron is in the documentary and makes additional points. Social Media is making you a jerk is a great one.

While he doesn't directly critique Online Dating, he does mention Catfishing and Ashley Madison being mostly bots. If you Google 'FTC sues Match' you'll find bots are very common across the industry.

At least now you can't detach online dating from social media , you need to get your matches to add you on Snapchat so you never actually meet anyone. Just off pure stats, people are more alone than ever before. By design it doesn't work for most people. And what company would want to lose subscribers ?

I found myself an anxiety filled 'lab rat' when using that junk. Deleted all my social media a year or so ago , and I've had no issue meeting great folks since.

Generally I go out to do things I want to do. Everyone that's joined me along the way, including a fellow .net programer, has been a bonus.

All that said, I see it getting much worse before it gets better. Social Media is eventually going to be regulated , but it's already destroyed a generation. Rates of suicide have exploded since Social Media became mainstream.

The available learning resources for Unity are much better than they are for UE4. I want to add X to my game, I Google it and find ether an asset or open source project within minutes .

For my current project I found a half dozen templates to start from. Everything in UDK was ether half done or abandoned.

Of course both , or even rolling your own , are fine.
