Maybe curl is significantly better hardened than most projects?

Yeah, it looks like there are at least 11 security bugs missed by Mythos.

"...After fixing the initial set of issues that Anthropic sent to us in February, we built our own harness atop our existing fuzzing infrastructure.

We began with small-scale experiments prompting the harness to look for sandbox escapes with Claude Opus 4.6. Even with this model, we identified an impressive amount of previously-unknown vulnerabilities which required complex reasoning over multiprocess browser engine code..."

So yeah, Anthropic and Mozilla likely compare "Amount of bugs found by Opus 4.6 during early experiments" vs "Amount of bugs found by Mythos during large-scale codebase scanning".

After one month, most partners have each found hundreds of critical- or high-severity vulnerabilities in their software.

And at the moment we have reports from like around 5(?) companies. Btw, Palo Alto Networks has found only 26 vulnerabilities [1]. I'm interested what those partners are and why they have such big amount of vulnerabilities.

For instance, Cloudflare has found 2,000 bugs (400 of which are high- or critical-severity) across their critical-path systems, with a false positive rate that Cloudflare’s team considers better than human testers.

Yet decided not to share that number. I wonder why.

Mozilla found and fixed 271 vulnerabilities in Firefox 150 while testing Mythos Preview—over ten times more than they found in Firefox 148 with Claude Opus 4.6;

Mozilla tested Opus 4.6 in a very limited setting (i.e. without proper harness and integration into their workflow; likely without large-scale codebase scanning). It's an incorrect comparison.

The latest Palo Alto Networks release included over five times as many patches as usual.

Yeah, it's better to say "five times as many..." rather than "26 bugs". Btw, they also used GPT-5.5 and Opus 4.7, so the contribution from Mythos there is unclear.

Microsoft has reported that the number of new patches they’ll release will “continue trending larger for some time.” And Oracle is finding and fixing vulnerabilities across its products and cloud multiple times faster than before.

Both Oracle and Microsoft are talking about "AI and cybersecurity" in general, not about Mythos.

For the last few months, Anthropic has used Mythos Preview to scan more than 1,000 open-source projects, which collectively underpin much of the internet—and much of our own infrastructure. So far, Mythos Preview has found what it estimates are 6,202 high- or critical-severity vulnerabilities in these projects (out of 23,019 in total, including those it estimates as medium- or low-severity).

So, ~6 high- and critical- severity bugs per open-source project v.s. hundreds of high- and critical- severity bugs per partner projects. It looks like the math ain't mathing.

One example of an open-source vulnerability that Mythos Preview detected was in wolfSSL, an open-source cryptography library that’s known for its security and is used by billions of devices worldwide. Mythos Preview constructed an exploit that would let an attacker forge certificates that would (for instance) allow them to host a fake website for a bank or email provider. The website would look perfectly legitimate to an end user, despite being controlled by the attacker. We’ll release our full technical analysis of this now-patched vulnerability (assigned CVE-2026-5194) in the coming weeks.

Of course, they didn't say that Mythos found only 8 bugs in wolfSSL vs 22 CVE fixed in wolfSSL 5.9.1.

Overall, it feels like yet another marketing stunt.

As much as I’d like to share in the skepticism, the very beginning of the article states it very plainly — this is a step function.

To be fair, they can't say "You know, Mythos is better, but improvements are overhyped af". Moreover, their explanation of that "step change" is strange. It sounds like Mythos isn't that much better at finding vulnerabilities (which is very strange, given statements from Mozilla), but is way stronger at working with them.

Lots of people feel that Mythos is a psyops campaign, but I don’t really understand the skepticism. Most of it seems to stem from the general distrust of things that aren’t publicly available.

1) Attempts to spin the idea about "Super powerful general purpose model that can't be released for some not so clear reasons" are usually a very bad sign. OpenAI proves it.

2) Mythos system card has a lot of strange moments, errors and things that sound like attempts to deceive.

3) It's strange that Anthropic is struggling with both Sonnet 5.0 and Opus 5.0, but at the same time has a breakthrough in the form of Mythos.

A few Anthropic employees have described Mythos as a general purpose model improvement, but that claim has yet to be widely backed up so that’s the only place I’m remaining skeptical.

Article describes Mythos as a cybersecurity-specific model though. It's yet another unclear moment.

Unless you have reasons to not believe the dozens of credentialed, well respected people in the field that have already shared their opinions after working with mythos.

Exactly the same argument was made about o3-preview, lol. But anyway, do they talk about all domains where Mythos did the leap in capabilities (math and other research, ML, SWE) or only about cybersec?

And then there's the team at mozilla. They wrote a blog about this, and they've worked with anthropic before, using opus 4.6 and found and fixed 22 vulnerabilities. Then they worked with mythos and found and fixed 271 vulnerabilities

Those 22 bugs were found in February, at the time when Mozilla were doing first small-scale experiments with Opus 4.6 (i.e. no proper integration into workflow, likely relatively simple harness, likely only small part of codebase was covered). You can't compare "22 bugs which were found during very early attempts to apply AI" and "271 bugs which were found during large-scale codebase scanning with properly configured AI". The fact that Mozilla is pretty vague about "contribution of other AI models" makes it even worse.

Unless you're going to accuse them of being shills, these are unquestionable numbers. The model is quantitatively better at this thing

They found another ~150 bugs after their first announce, and only like ~35 were found by Mythos. It's already very sharp drop in contribution.

I think there are better things to accuse anthropic of, than that they are simply lying for marketing purposes.

Anthropic already used a lot of "technically correct but in fact deceiving" statements in Mythos system card. They are playing both "It's too dangerous" and "We don't have enough compute for that super model" at the moment (it's usually a big red falg). Opus 4.7 (which was likely supposed to be "Opus 5.0", given various facts) is a disaster from various points of views. Of course people don't really believe Anthropic.

Mythos did in fact write PoCs for all bugs that crash with demonstration of memory-unsafe behavior (e.g. use-after-free, out-of-bounds reads/writes, etc).

But report [1] says that "Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption...", which implies that majority of these (which includes 271 bugs from Mythos) don't have evidence at all. Do I not understand something?

For us this is substantial enough evidence to consider it a security vulnerability at that point

Mythos is supposed to be pretty good at writing actual exploits, so (as I understand) there shouldn't be any serious problems with checking if bug is vulnerability or not.
