Yes - has a small chunk of very affluent residents, but also huge populations, loads of people living well below the poverty line, high percentage of undocumented workers (also likely living below the poverty line), and a huge mix of both urban and rural populations. Those rankings don’t strike me at all as odd.
That’s complete rubbish. What of the sushi chef who has no knowledge or experience with French cuisine or someone who has mastered how to make a great taco? Would you not consider them masters of their craft, because I sure would.

I feel the same way about “UX Designer/Engineer”. Seems to mean someone who can put a wireframe together but has no design chops. Any good designer that has experience crafting user interfaces should be skilled at thinking through in-depth about what the user is doing when using the product and how to successfully guide them through that process.
With all the drama in the platform right now (caused by one of the creators), I would suggest that anyone that isn’t already deeply invested in it for whatever reason to not start now. Its future is a big question mark right now and I’m unable to recommend it as a stable solution to anyone anymore.
Easy enough to replace icons just doing a get info and a copy/paste, but will this app handle auto-replacing the icon again after an app update? Example: I dislike the stock VSCode icon, so I found another icon that I like better and replaced it. Easy peasy. However, every time there is an app update, that icon gets wiped out. If this app solves that, I’d gladly pay for it.
Similar thing has happened to me. Close to a year ago, it was decided that my old manager had too many direct reports, so our group was split into 2. I was asked by my manager if I wanted to apply to manage the new team, which I was not enthusiastic about. I had considered it and weighed my options:
1. Known quality of life and work decrease for having to focus on middle management tasks instead of getting my hands dirty.
2. Big gamble on not knowing what kind of manager we might get.
So, I declined and gambled on a new manager. So far, this has gone terribly. Our group morale and productivity is super low as we now have a petty micromanager with no technical skills a technical team. They insert themselves into our processes with no knowledge of how any of it works, demand that they are cc’d on all communications with any manager or above, and complain when we disagree with their opinions, calling that disagreement disrespectful.
I have been looking at job boards just about every day since.
I like many of the decisions/opinions in this. Will dig into it more possibly on a future project.
Agree - this is why I believe the notion of “UX being a discipline” is nonsense. A good designer should be informing all of their decisions with the goal of crafting the best possible user experience. Otherwise, a designer is just being relegated to “make this look pretty,” just like a developer or engineer might be told to “code monkey this solution that I have dreamed up.”
I’m on a 2017 iMac 27” and the hardware issues aside, I’m also not upgrading yet because they got rid of decent screen sizes. Other than money/profit - why don’t they make a 27” anymore? Frustrating.
npm is a good analogy to this, but I don’t see how either one would be considered the publisher. Those are indexes/directories/whatever-you-want-to-call-it of packages/WP plugins. Another example would be something like GitHub. If GitHub (Microsoft) decided to take over the repo URL of a rival’s repository, I don’t think there would be any ambiguity about who was in the wrong.
Anywho - I’m not looking to get into an argument with a random internet stranger so have a good one.
Wordpress.org is not the publisher of that plugin - WPE is. Wordpress.org was just hosting it in their plugin directory, which is where just about the entire community goes to for plugins. I’d guess that because of this drama, more plugin publishers will choose to not publish theirs in the directory anymore.
How is this not a supply chain attack? Mattomatic literally took over a plugin that WPE owns/maintains by co-opting its plugin URL/slug. They renamed the plugin but took control over the URL that everyone’s plugin points to for updates. Literal MITM attack.
Strong disagree - yoast, while super popular, is a horrible, bloated mess and loves to dirty up your front end code. It’s also a regular target for vulnerabilities, due to its popularity.
What do you do if the manager has no technical skill/knowledge (basically generic middle manager that happens to lead a technical team)?
My dad (W6FP RIP) did the same. I thought that was pretty neat but not enough that I ever got into ham radio.
That’s the point of the license WordPress is developed under - WPE, in fact, does not have a duty to give anything back.
With Lorawan or meshtastic, what’s the practical max range for a line of sight connection between 2 devices (or a device and the base)? I have a need to mount a weather station on top of a mountain and our free flight club’s landing zone is about a mile and a half line of sight from there. The mountain gets a very weak cell signal (closest tower is probably 2-3 miles away) and would be great to have a better solution.
Check out Stave Puzzles if you want to get into insanely difficult jigsaw puzzles with multiple solutions. Some have multiple solutions (3+) and some go 3 dimensional. I have one that is either a 3 or 4 leaf clover.
Tesla does a lot of the “slick” features very well, but at least for me, they have been failing miserably at the basics:
- customer service: took 3 weeks to get my last service appointment, so I couldn’t drive my car for that long (service was because the charge port door wouldn’t open); was not told that when I had to replace the touchscreen (it had bubbles in it and I live in a very moderate climate), I would no longer have a radio.
- basic/critical features being poorly designed or seemingly had little thought put into them: see the above charge port door issue; window seals that drip going through the car wash; no physical controls for anything so you have to focus on the touchscreen while driving; other random fit and finish issues just due to substandard workmanship.
- substandard software: frequent issues and bugs with basic operation; after my touchscreen was replaced, the glove box pin no longer opens the glove box (minor nit, but annoying); loads of other random little annoyances.
