What makes you believe that? All the major car companies are making EVs and there are several SpaceX competitors (Blue Origin in particular). The SolarCity side of Tesla's business is declining, but there are still many companies offering solar installations.
Or maybe people realize the raising kids is an enormous cost from both money and time. Maybe it's selfish, but myself and many of my millennial friends would rather spend their prime earning and health years doing what they want rather than what they "have to" do for kids.
Except when they do go down it can be a catastrophic business interrupting event. Which is why the cloud model of assume everything is going to break and all your hardware is disposable works much better (IMO).
