To preface this, I agree with you, per our current scientific understanding, this isn't possible.

That being said, we would be fools to look at our level of technology and think we could grasp everything in the universe. I'm not saying what we saw in the video is real. I just think dismissing something because it doesn't fit our understanding of reality in the current moment, is not in our best interest.

Take almost any piece of advanced tech we use everyday back in time far enough, you will get a similar response.

Maybe seeing an object doing this in real life gives enough information to work backwards and realize we made some mistakes. When we adjust our understanding it not only seems possible but helps explain other things we couldn't before.

Maybe some other country is fucking with us, somehow, advanced hologram tech or something.

Who knows, I think being skeptical, but approaching it with an open mind is the best way to go about it.

Sadly in a way its not an exaggeration at all, will doctors and nurses literally watch you die of course not. If you go into the ER they legally have to stabilize you. But that's it. If I have cancer and and really sick, If they take to me to the ER, they will stabilize me but they want start treating the cancer. Even if its still early, they will watch you die over time as the cancer advances and makes you worse.

To be fair, I am certain the doctors and nurses want to treat you. But the hospital won't/can't allow it for bullshit reasons.

You can buy human insulin for $25 a vial at Walmart. It's not as good, but it's what people used a couple decades ago.

Countries with nationalized healthcare often have long backlogs for treatments. The cancer backlog in the UK is over 2 million people and it's continuing to grow [1].

Also, if you are insured, you're typically going to get new and more sophisticated treatments on the US compared to most places with nationalized healthcare.

The UK has its issue, but from what I can see its because they are purposely starving it of money so they can ultimately privatize it.

America's health care is fucking garbage. There is no defending it, I'm so tired of spending my time calling several different companies to figure out why I am getting billed for something I shouldn't be. I'm not exaggerating either, literally one or twice a month I get the joy of calling my insurance and whatever doctor sent the bill and try and solve why my insurance won't cover it.

Pushing yourself to mental exhaustion, is stupid and pointless. It's been thoroughly studied, by the time you've hit mental exhaustion you are not doing anywhere near your best work. Hell I've seen it myself. I noticed my code quality and code output fell drastically the more exhausted I became. I can not stress enough how much better you are not doing that.

Looking through your own post history I see clear signs of trying to work while exhuasted.

This was literally me until I learned to not push myself so hard. I had the exact same problem and it turns out for me at least trying to learn programming while exhausted did me no favors. I worked all day came home and tried to learn and struggled the exact same way you are. It wasn't until I was able to learn more during the day while not exhausted that it really started to click with me.

I think you vastly misunderstand the entire point of antiwork. Its not saying go sit on a couch all day. Its to recognize you have a life outside of work and its okay if work isn't your driving factor in life.

You can learn to persevere and push yourself many many ways. Work is not the only way. Not excelling at your job does not mean you are lethargic and resentful.

Success is measured many different ways, by many different people. You seem to measure it by how hard you work, that's great. Doesn't mean everyone has too.

Set requests very low for your pods. Look at the minimum CPU/Memory that your pods need go start and set it to that. Limits can be whatever.

We have come a long way from the late 90s and early 2000s when ISS was built. If NASA was properly funded I'm sure it would also be able to build a competing station cheaper/easier as well. ISS and NASA paved the way for SpaceX. So them being to do it cheaper isn't as impressive as it was bound to happen.

He chose to put a package online. He didn't sign any contract stating the package would meet some kind of quality obligations. He had no obligation to do anything.

If there was a bug in his logic that caused an infinite loop in some scenarios he was under no obligation to fix it. While I think he should in that scenario, I would defend his right to leave it. Another maintainer could fix it, someone could fork the package, whatever.

I am not arguing he owed anything to anyone. I am arguing that he is not entitled to maliciously break things on people. He committed it knowing full way most packages would grab it automatically, most people are okay with that as if it breaks things they can go back a version no big deal. His package is so popular some people might not even realize that one of their dependencies relies on it.

We can argue about how much time you should invest in knowing your dependencies and checking every commit for them, until we are blue in the face. The reality is he knew most people just can't or won't especially in npm world.

There is no defending a malicious act. He is not entitled to commit code maliciously. OS works because we trust maintainers to do their best to have the best interests of the users at heart. The flip side of that is they are under no obligation to work on it. They can walk away at anytime.

If peoples idea of OS software starts to include that someone could do something malicious at any moment, that's the beginning of the end of OS.

Open source works because we can trust authors to not maliciously harm other people. If it was a bug that's one thing it happens, you move on. But when you purposely do something that you know will cause harm to people that is where I draw the line.

Your analogy isn't even close. No one forced him to write faker.js. He chose to do it and he chose to make it open source under a license allowing people to use it. He also chose to maintain it and help people with issues. If he didn't want to maintain it anymore, It is his right to stop. No company could force him to continue. But he nor anyone is not entitled to add malicious code. Full stop that is where I draw the line. I can't believe anyone is defending that.

I'm with you but in this case the Pentagon hid the results of its first independent audit. There is no proof, but the fact they changed the rules to hide the results of the audit says all I need to know. If the pentagon wants to prove me wrong I'm all for it. Release the results and prove me wrong.

The American military budget is so massively over-bloated its sickening. No only that, they made 35 Trillion dollars in adjustments in 2019 alone. The year before they made 30 Trillion dollars in adjustments.

In 2018 the pentagon failed its first ever independent audit, instead of releasing the report, they changed their own rules to hide the report under the guise of "national security".

Its not, but I find it disturbing how, in general, even the smallest whiff of fraud from a social program, brings all sorts of regulations and cuts. But the Pentagon making 65 trillion dollars in adjustments to its budget in 2 years is meet with silence.

For me, I would rather every single person in this country go to bed with a full stomach, even if it meant some amount of fraud, then to let the pentagon piss away more money.

If people really cared about not wasting their tax dollars they would be outraged over the pentagon. Doing a proper audit of that would probably get back so much money any fraud in social programs would be statistically insignificant.

I don't understand how people can look at Capitalism and all of its failings and say more Capitalism is the solution. Maybe in theory, more Capitalism would solve it, but in theory Communism _should_ be a much fairer form of government and we all know how the USSR worked out.

Quarter after quarter companies are posting record profits. You aren't getting anything for free. You paid for all of that in one way or another. Wikipedia you might not have, its kept alive by donations. The others are paid for by either sitting through ads or having your data harvested and sold. Just because you aren't handing over money doesn't mean there is no cost associated with it.

This is a terrible argument that try's to gloss over the actual problem. Wages have been stagnant for decades while inflation is still a thing. The middle class is dying and its not because they have bigger homes and better tech. Corporate America is strangling the middle class then cries for bailouts when they hit even the tiniest speed bump(and gets it without much issue). While helping the average American becomes a massive issue.

Do you know their entire medical history? How severe the ADHD is? Any other issues they are treating or not treating? If you can point to a study to back up what you are saying then by all means go for it. Otherwise all you have is anecdotal evidence and pretty weak evidence at that.

Most people on Earth don't live in European cities. I grew up in the suburbs I couldn't go anywhere myself. Public transportation just isn't a thing around me. Not to mention all the stuff that has to be done around the house.

As for parenthood its not just about bringing your kids places. They want to play, they need to eat, they need diaper changes. Kids are a ton of work I love every minute of it, but man is it difficult.

Capitalism is too broad a concept to boil it down to a short description. My argument is about what Capitalism lead to the greed and moral failings of our country. Capitalism is so en-grained in the American way of life its hard to separate the two. Our style of government lead to more and more greedy people doing more and more underhanded things to make a profit and thus in turn maintaining that profit. America is pointed out as the shining example of how successful Capitalism is as a form of government and its not.

You point to the failings of the USSR to protect its environment and ignore our own. Yes we have an EPA which is a good step, but our form of government enabled private citizens and corporations to essentially purchase the ability to pollute. To put chemicals in our food and water that was cheap, but necessarily safe. Our country is failing just as poorly at protecting its citizens health and environment as the USSR. We just have the ability to point to the EPA and say we are trying harder so that's good enough. Its not,

The EPA has refused to add a single chemical to its watch list for public water since the clean water act of 1972. Our water standards are based on science that is almost 50 years old. If you think its because in those 50 years we haven't learned anymore about health, then i have a bridge to sell you. Its because updating those standards would cost money and not have any direct monetary benefit in return, because we live in a country/exist in a form of government that prioritizes profit over the health of its own citizens.
